I've been chatting to Milly on FB tonight and during our chat, it transpired that he didn't know who Eric Morecambe was. Being Canadian, I'll let him off this one time but it made me think that many of our non-British friends may not have heard of this towering figure in the history of British comedy.
I've always had a 'glass half-full' approach to life. A 'turn that frown upside down' response to the struggles and challenges that we face. In my 8 months here in the SLU I've made many on-line friends and many of you have been so kind to comment on my positive and helpful personality.
One of my heroes and examples of how this can be done and how laughter and goodness can be such a force for good is Eric Morecambe who along with side-kick Ernie Wise were the biggest double-act since Laurel and Hardy.
Please read my blog post here that I wrote about them back in September 2010 with clips showing their absolute, joyful genius.

As I said in the piece:
"...the reason why I love Eric Morecambe and by definition really, Ernie Wise also, is because they were just a simple force for good.
"No malice. No hatred. No anger.
"Just pure joy and an ambition to make others smile. What better person in the world is there than one who wants to make others laugh and be happy?
"I close with two final clips that sum Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise up. If more people in this mixed up, confused old world in which we live followed their following advice, we would surely be living in a better place.
"Positive Thinking' is what they were all about and they 'Brought us Sunshine' with their gentle but irresistable humour".
If ever I had a personal mantra for living and for the way that I have tried to live my life these past 29 years, then it's that mantra that was set by Morecambe & Wise.
I have long told people who will listen that in my funeral, as well as the Welsh hymn 'Calon Lan' (A Pure Heart) and the English hymn 'Abide With Me', I want the service to begin with Elvis Presley's 'If I Can Dream' and I'm leaving to Morecambe & Wise's 'Bring Me Sunshine'.

This, very simply, is who I am.
