Strikes sudden the infected experience a brief surge of pain and dies usually 2 hours after the attack.

Hypotheses
Maybe originated from one of the colony planets.Asgard being most likely because of the relative quick and careless colonization of the planet. "Green Death" plague is also out of question because that gives other symptoms.

N-SIC Section 003 update

2 cures have been found but unfortunately all the 2 solutions but gives very serious side effects and cannot be distributed or to impractical for large scale use.

1 cure using Mentnium injections (a recent discovered metal from the planet of Asgard) whit a standard antibiotic treatment. How ever the metal have a 78% probability to cause permanent blindness and are extremely toxic to humans. The Mentnium bounds the virus you need around 1kg Mentnium to bound entire virus from a recently infected person. But Mantnium is toxic around half kg.

2 is a complete genetic rewrite the N-SIC has long study the effects of a complete genetic rewrite on humans. The idea is that a infected person DNA should be rewritten to a state when the infection can't kill. How ever it may be impossible to find a state where the infection gets harmless. And if such state would be found it would be very impractical as its cost are huge compared to making a simple vaccine.

quick update

Disturbing news shake Newhalla as the death toll has raised to 10.000 people. However the rumors of a cure being found has being confirmed by the newly assembled N-SIC section 007 (epidemic control) however details are a bit thin.

We have developed an immunisation that works on humans, we called this disease the "deathly pain" before we eradicated it. The immunisation won't cure the infected, but can stop others becomeing infected. Four of our omniload freighters with enough vaccine for the current population of newhalla, it will arrive in two days through the earth hub gate.

And thanks you N-SIC will now focus our efforts to find a cure for the infected. After we checked the cure and distributed it to the population. Our estimation is that we might be able to prevent infections 78% of Newhalla population. The infection can go in a deep hibernation making it impossible to keep track who is infected though.

Our vaccine was delayed by pirate activity but our frigate escort saw them off. The vaccine has now arrived and is being beamed down as we type.

A cure have been found or more like cures. It was the 45 year old Olf Tonreson a recently infected whit the plague that accidentally drank Asgard water that he got from hes daughter on Asgard. Olf has also got a dose of the Equum vaccine some 1 hour earlier.

I was one of the first to get the vaccine but after i got it a nurse said that i was infected and the vaccine is now useless. Then i knew i don't have much time to live so i went home. When i got home i made myself some tea using the can of Asgard water i got from my daughter on asgard. i thought if i am gonna die then i want to taste tea whit water from another planet. so i finished the tea and went to bed and expected to not wake up again. however i did wake up and i felt 20 years younger to. i immediately rushed to the local hospital and tested my self. To everyone surprise i was not infected. The nurse i meet earlier asked what i did and i said "i did make tea whit water from Asgard". Only 5 minutes later the N-SIC guys was all over me.

N-SIC has also confirmed that the Equum vaccine and asgard water combined eliminate the infection. Several tons of water from asgard are already under way.
