The "official responses" in the war thread got me thinking. What videos or films did you think were interesting or inspiring? These two are mine: Shock Docrine and Crises of Capitalism

Hm, well, the first video there is blocked in the UK, for a "copyright reason." Great; can't watch academic arguments that might enrich my mind, even if I might not agree with it! For me, Edge of Darkness is a nice, bleak, thought-provoking drama. Just how much power do nuclear corporations, secret agencies and powerful special interest groups (in this case including the Trades Unions) have over a country? Oh, and The Wire as well; the best TV programme the US has ever produced and one of my all time top 10! It shows you how things really are, in some circumstances.

Well, that sucks. It was about neo-liberalism and how it has affected the countries that adopted it. It mentions the coal miners strike under Thatcher and the fall of the Soviet Union and Yeltsin among other things.
I've never seen "Edge of Darkness" nor "The Wire", but they both seem very interesting.
Anybody else have some?

An Inconvenient Truth has definitely inspired me. I watched Margin Call in the cinema several months ago. If you want to know more about the collapse of Lehman Brothers, I recommend it. It uses a lot of technical terms though so be prepared :)

"Inside Job" was also a good one about the collapse of the financial markets.

I like the Art of Flight as well, it's a movie about snowboarding and its unique culture. The one movie that has inspired me to work in the leisure industry instead of the foreign exchange/international trade desk at a bank where I interned. Glad I made the decision, it is way way way better to make people smile because they're having fun than help money change hands without seeing the face of customers.

You're so right there, Grolsch. When people read something I write, or watch me perform on stage, I get that buzz you just don't get anywhere else. Well, maybe if you had an ice-cold Pepsi served to you by Emma Stone on a yacht in the Caribbean....

It's about making people happy. Most people who work at investment banks only do it for the money. While many people at such places work 70+ hrs per week on average (they have no life; just work usually), they earn $120K+/yr with 0 experience straight out of uni. But it is no fun at all. In the leisure industry, you get paid less, but make people happy and share in the fun (usually). Did I mention the hours average 50 a week? And for those on stage yeah I get what you mean :P
