Greetings [nation]NATION_NAME[/nation],
You have been invited to the [region]Social Liberal Union[/region]!
Our region prides itself on its socialist and liberal values. Since a lot of other socialist regions now contain a number of corrupt dictatorships and authoritarian regimes, whilst many liberal regions contain more right wing libertarian nations, we’d like to keep this region one just for the genuine socialists and social liberals. So please join us if your political freedoms and civil rights are average or above!
Let me be brief and provide a few good reasons why you should move here to the [region]Social Liberal Union[/region].
1. We are a region that is growing quickly with many nations joining everyday. We are now the largest tagged Liberal region in Nation States and the second largest tagged Socialist region!
2. We have an organized and vibrant democracy with elections held a few times a year for the World Assembly Delegate and the Speaker of the Union.
3. In our region, the World Assembly Delegate selects a few nations to stand for election for each Cabinet position. The members of the region then have the final say on which nations fill each role - democracy in action! It’s just another way to get involved.
4. There's rarely a dull moment here in the [region]Social Liberal Union[/region] as we have a lively regional message board that discuses a broad range of topics and an active forum that's always having discussions.
5. We also have many great role-play games. We have a map where you are able to see your nation geographically and fun fantasy sports leagues where you can win your chance to dominate your fellow nations.
6. On our forum, anyone can post their opinion on legislation and bills going through Parliament. Free speech and debating is always encouraged in the SLU!
To help us build our democratic region: 1. Click on any of the green '[region]Social Liberal Union[/region]' links. 2. Beneath our World Factbook Entry, click 'Move NATION_NAME to [region]Social Liberal Union[/region]!' 3. That's it! Please feel free to register on our forum (using your nation's name) as well.
On behalf of the [region]Social Liberal Union[/region], thank you for your time and consideration!PLEASE SEE REVISED RECRUITMENT TELEGRAM BELOW!

I have made some minor tweaks to the recruitment TG to bring it up to date. In particular, I've... - Made bold the requirement for member nations to have average or higher civil rights and political freedoms.
- Made the point that we are now the largest liberal and second largest socialist tagged regions in NS.
- Added Speaker of the Union to the list of elections that we have throughout the year.
- Added to the Cabinet selection procedure in light of the recent ministerial approval procedure to further add to our democratic credentials.
I think that's it! If there's anything that anyone thinks we should alter, give me a yell here and I can tinker about it with it as necessary. Otherwise, if everyone is happy, I will take it as read that this becomes the new recruitment telegram.

I don't know if you'd like this or not. I'm not crazy about the current RT, in particular the first paragraph and especially the lines about about political freedoms and civil rights. I think it's a bit aggressive and intimidating to new nations. Especially as we're specifically targeting nations that already have high CV and PF, it seems unnecessary, I think a reminder about CV and PF in the greeting telegram is more appropriate.
Anyway I decided to knock up a draft just to see what you guys think,
[b]Greetings [nation]NATION NAME[/nation],
You have been invited to the [region]Social Liberal Union[/region]![/b]
Our region prides itself on its liberal values. Lots of other socialist regions contain a number of corrupt dictatorships and authoritarian regimes, whilst many more regions contain only right wing conservative nations. So we keep our region just for the genuine Democratic socialists and social liberals. So if your politics are the same as ours, why not join!
Here are just a few reasons why you join the [region]Social Liberal Union[/region]:
[b]1.[/b] We are the Largest Liberal region in NationStates, with many new nations joining every day.
[b]2.[/b] We have an organized and vibrant democracy with regular elections held for the World Assembly Delegate.
[b]3.[/b] The Region also has a democratically elected cabinet, including ministers of Foreign and Domestic affairs, Immigration and Defense. All of which new nations can get immediately involved in.
[b]4.[/b] The [region]Social Liberal Union[/region] is incredibly lively, our regional message board is always buzzing with many nations that discuss a broad range of topics. And we also have an active forum that's busy with discussion.
[b]5.[/b] We have a large role-playing community, with many games and wars to take part in. We have a map where you can visibly see your own nation geographically and fun fantasy sports leagues where you can compete against your fellow nations.
[b]6.[/b] On our forum, anyone can post their opinion on legislation and bills going through Parliament. Free speech and debating is always encouraged in the SLU!
To help us build our democratic region: [b]1.[/b] Click on any of the green '[region]Social Liberal Union[/region]' links. [b]2.[/b] Beneath our World Factbook Entry, click 'Move nation to [region]Social Liberal Union[/region]!' [b]3.[/b] That's it! Something needs to change. We have a very low success rate. I don't know about the success rate of others but my success rate is probably something like 5-7%. Not good.
Animo, I agree with you. Since we only invite those nations with Average or higher freedoms, it might be a bit aggressive to have the minimum freedoms in bold. However, what do you mean with "progressives"? Do you mean socialists?

Progressive is a general term for people on left of the political scale. It's the opposite of conservative.

I'm happy to go with those changes to see if it improves on the recruitment rate. I noticed that the word 'socialist' has been dropped a few times in the ammended text. That isn't a personal problem for me though it may be for some in the region.
Could you drop me a small one line TG Animo after every recuitment session so I know roughly how many messages you've sent out each time? Grolsch does so and it's just useful for me to keep a check on the response rate and if it's low then we can make alterations as above.
Thanks :-)

Hmm, where I come from "progressive" parties are political parties with the willingness to make changes and "conservative" parties generally do not support change. Doesn't matter if the party is left, centered or right. I suggest using "socialist", since I believe that the meaning of that word is the same in every country and as such may be more clear to some :)

Progressive is just a general term associated with the left of the political spectrum. But if you're uncomfortable with it what about if I change the line to:
"So we keep our region just for the genuine Democratic socialists and social liberals."
The other point is, we're not actually a region of socialists. We are a region of a whole mish-mash that believe in democracy, liberalism, personal freedoms and civil rights.

Yes, I think you're compromise there Animo is spot on.
On another matter, Animo has raised concerns regarding recuitment from 'The Rejected Realms'. The concern being that when recruiting from there we're dealing with 'damaged goods'. It's possible we could be inviting raiders or just general troublemakers into our region. Animo requsted advice on the issue e.g whether or not we should take special care recruiting from there (checking their history thouroghly or performing a brief background check on the nations they were rejected from).
My response is that Animo has made very valid points. I haven't considered it because until this week I was never aware of it being a sinker region! It may therefore be an idea to go back to the original 8 regions to recruit from because going into detailed research of those in the Rejected Realms will just take up time and I don't want to over-complicate the recruiting process for new recruiters.
If everyone is in agreement, I will alter the guidance back to the original 8 recruitment regions.

I agree with Animo's compromise and the concerns raised. No nation so far has joined from The Rejected Realms anyway if I'm not mistaken.

I have altered the Recuitment TG to take in the amended wording and have altered the Beginners Guide to advise recuitment from the original 8 regions that I'd inititally mentioned.

As mentioned, I have moved the adapted and current recruitment telegram to a stand-alone thread so that new recruiters can easily find it instead of having to search through this thread for the updated version.
My attempt at making the system more 'user-friendly'.
I have locked that thread for that same reason of easy accessibility but any questions or suggestions of changes to our recruitment TG can be made here and I will make the agreed alterations there!
Hope that all makes sense! :)
