Speaker Election
According to Article 3, Section 2 of the Third Constitution of the Social Liberal Union, an election for the office of Speaker of the Union is now triggered.
I, Courelli , am serving as Election Administrator, and will dutifully and impartially execute the duties and powers of this position to the best of my ability.
The Speaker of the Union is the presiding officer of the Open Parliament and Chief Officer of the Legislative branch. The Speaker is a member of the Administration, and is privy to all Cabinet discussions.
Duties include:
- Impartially administering parliamentary procedure made by or pursuant to law or the Constitution;
- Appointing a Speaker pro tempore to act in their absence;
- Determining the end of voting on bills, in accordance with constitutional minimum and maximum voting timeframes;
- Serving as Chair of the Law Commission;
- Ensuring the constitutionally-prescribed legislation classification system is used and implemented;
- Serving as the custodian of all records of the Open Parliament, and updating them when necessary;
- Archiving and preserving past historical and legislative records;
- Breaking ties in Cabinet decisions.
Nominations will last for a period of SEVEN (7) days, starting on Sunday, 21 July 2019, and concluding on Sunday, 28 July 2019.
Any Member State may nominate themselves (if eligible) or another eligible Member State (subject to their acceptance) to run for this position.
Eligible States are those who:
- Are Member States, as defined by the Constitution;
- Have been Member States for at least two months prior to 4 August 2019;
- Have not served two consecutive terms as Speaker of the Union.
Voting will begin immediately thereafter; starting Sunday, 28 July 2019, and concluding Sunday, 4 August 2019.
