Z-Day
On October 30th, NationState's annual Z-Day event occurred. Solus Unus was appointed to be the Zombie Queen, who is the lead coordinator of the DSA's Z-Day efforts. In the beginning, the DSA was holding out well with the region's main focus being on curing the zombies. However, soon it all starting falling apart.
One can presume that the most active players are in the same general hemisphere, thus many were asleep at the same time. When they awoke, there seemed to be too many infected, some countries having an infected population percentage in the high 90s. In the end, many countries were forsaken. However, the DSA did make it onto the leaderboard. We were ranked #92nd for Most Survivors. We were ranked #28th for Most Infected, and 50th for Most Dead.
Interview with Student Loan Debt
Our seventh interview is with Student Loan Debt, who is, at the moment of this publication, the sitting Minister of Role Play
⦁ When did you first join NationStates? How did you first hear about it?
I joined NationStates on December 4th of 2017. I first heard of it when I was on a (now deleted) political discussion app where someone was advertising it. It sounded interesting, and then I joined.
⦁ When did you join the DSA? Were you just looking at regions when you found us or did you come through recruitment telegram?
I joined the DSA on my first day. I got a recruitment telegram from the region Europe and considered them, especially since they said I would be safe from "Raiders", which sounded like the boogy man to me when I first joined. Then I got one from the DSA. Being the nervous wreck that I am about starting a new game, I joined the DSA right then and there since it seemed like they aligned enough with my views.
⦁ What are some things you've come to enjoy about the DSA most? A favorite memory?
This is something that most people say in this because honestly it is the most lively part of the DSA; the Discord Server. I feel more social on there than I ever did before. I also like how the DSA isn't that divisive among itself. A favorite memory that I have is when I became the Director of Cartography.
⦁ What do you do outside of NationStates? Examples: what your job (if employed)? Hobbies? Talents? etc
My main hobby is currently based around NationStates. I find myself getting really invested in one thing, losing interest, then moving on to the next. I like to write stories (haven't done so in a long time, however) I'm currently in my second year at (online) community college trying to study for political science. Along side that, I'm also involved in my schools GSA (Gay-Straight-Alliance), which is where most of my face-to-face socializing occurs.
⦁ What made you first want to enter DSA government? What made you want to enter for this cabinet?
I was just trying to be involved in the DSA. I was in a voice chat with Ivory Rhodes and 124mm10 when they were talking about how weird the straight borders looked on the maps. One of them said the word "organic". Sheepishly, I said "I can make them look more organic". Ivory let me try, was impressed, and appointed me to be Director of Cartography. That felt cool, so I went along with it. What made me want to enter for this cabinet? I've been MoRP for a while now and like the job, so I wanted to continue to be it. It mostly started with me being one of the most active role-players in the region at the time and wanting to take over the MoRP. Then I started stretching my long and wrinkly fingers into other ministries through cabinet aide positions. Staying in the Ministry that I've been shown to be the best in and have dominated is the best way to continue to be influential. The Debtian Empire lives on both in RP and Regional Government.
⦁ Who are some people whom you've come to consider good friends in the DSA?
Oh boy, the part of the interview where people can be offended by not being directly mentioned. How wonderful. Here's the issue with this question that I've only realized recently; my definition of "friend" is kind of more strict than most people would have. This stems from my childhood and really only considering people friends if you hang out with them outside of school (probably because my brother always did that with his friends). I don't really know who I consider "friends". I name a dozen people I consider acquaintances, but "friends" just feels like a weird word to me because of this weird definition limbo I find myself in. I enjoy talking with people like Solus Unus, Daophi, Wileyshire, and Liossalde. I enjoy talking to other people as well, just these stand out at the moment of this interview.
⦁ What are your plans for the future in your life? What do you hope to be or accomplish before you die? Or more simply and less macabre, within the next 20 years?
Currently, my plans are to enter state and local politics in Maryland (the state I live in). I may possibly try and run for office one day, or I might not. I don't really know. I still have 20 years before this question expires.
