Hello SLU!
I come to you today to ask for your vote in the upcoming election. I have had domestic affairs experience, having served as minister years ago, so I know what works and what doesn't. I have had legislative experience, so understanding the role of minister as it has changed comes completely naturally. I'm the experienced candidate who knows how to get things done and my platform shows that.
Platform * Bring role play back to the forum. We need to seek an understanding with RMB role players to make sure that role play isn't confusing to enter and that RMB discussions aren't lost in the flurry of a war.
* Maintain a strong line against trolling and personal attacks in the region. I will use the powers of the office to their fullest extent to make sure that we have an inviting environment for new and old member states alike.
* Reboot the Council of Leaders to encompass wars so that we have a structure to role play to ensure a steady flow and prevent role play abuses like having too strong a military for the type of nation you have.
* In a similar vein, we need to reiterate that role playing has to have behind-the-scenes negotiation, open communication, and needs to be realistic for the time frame/theme covered by individual role playing.
* A minister of domestic affairs needs to also be able to take in criticism and implement changes as needed.
* I also run the SLU Minecraft server, which a few people have taken advantage of, but I wouldn't mind seeing a more active community be built on it.
If you have any questions or have any other suggestions for things we can do in the region, please ask them.

I like your campaign, NAR!
A question. What would your stance be on making regional statistics for the SLU, and what would your stance be on allowing nations with Civil Rights or Freedoms of "Some" stay for roleplaying purposes?

Hi NAR! Again, I wish you the best of luck in this election. Just 2 quick questions:
How are you planning to encourage roleplayers to change their style of roleplay - using the Council of Leaders, encouraging behind-the-scenes negotiation, time frame realism etc.?
How would splitting wars from other kinds of roleplay through the Council of Leaders "ensure a steady flow", when it effectively forces us into 2 disconnected flows - a "war" flow and an "everything else" flow? (please explain what I'm misunderstanding here)
Thanks in advance!

I like your campaign, NAR! A question. What would your stance be on making regional statistics for the SLU, and what would your stance be on allowing nations with Civil Rights or Freedoms of "Some" stay for roleplaying purposes? Thank you! I have been in favor of a unified SLU role-play, one where we have a set era (my preference being the present, but futuristic and historical eras are in play, too), as well as a more thorough SLU map with another layer for trade goods. It would take a lot of work, but even just a moderately sized list of goods, numbers for production/(day/week/month/etc.), and, say, a standard understanding of regional currencies (exchange rates [which I had worked on before]) and, most of all, participation, I think that we can create an SLU universe to be envious of. My stance on nations for role-playing purposes (so "some" and below while linked to member states) is the same as prior administrations I've served under: our constitution is firm on who can be in the region and Fair but Firm is the guiding light for dealing with violators. Now, within fair but firm there may be a loophole to allow those types of nations for a short period of time, but in the end, aren't you also depriving someone of a nation name they may have wanted, just to serve a short-lived role-play adventure?

Hi NAR! Again, I wish you the best of luck in this election. Just 2 quick questions: How are you planning to encourage roleplayers to change their style of roleplay - using the Council of Leaders, encouraging behind-the-scenes negotiation, time frame realism etc.? How would splitting wars from other kinds of roleplay through the Council of Leaders "ensure a steady flow", when it effectively forces us into 2 disconnected flows - a "war" flow and an "everything else" flow? (please explain what I'm misunderstanding here) Thanks in advance! Thank you! I wish the very best to you, as well. With regards to question #1: The best way to incentivize role-players to change their style is to work with them. See why they want to use, say, the RMB, and see if we can't find a way to replicate the experience on the forum. Barring that, providing quality role-play chances on the forum and increasing others' activity that way may cause a shift in role-play styles. I do not want to get rid of RMB role-play, or the twitter feeds for that matter, but we could have a chance at properly archiving and directing new players into these events without their stories getting lost. It's about working together to find a good solution. With regards to question #2: War, actual role-play war, is one of those events where having some structure in mind makes all the difference. Playing out factions in the Council of Leaders, discussing things both "in-character" and "out-of-character"...that kind of stuff helps keep a war flowing and all the more easier if there aren't forty RMB notifications that day. The Council of Leaders can serve as a mini-UN, expanding its scope from fringe events (nuclear weapons material being stolen or nano-bot frenzies) to larger-scale wars -- where leaders can condemn and condone military actions -- that have leaders coming together to discuss and play politics around troop movements. I would envision a vibrant Council where various topics come up and we have to address them all directly. So, while initially the Council of Leaders may seem like just 2 disconnected flows, I would like to see 2 intertwined flows that feed off each other: the news media of our members announcing normal affairs of state and the Council of Leaders discussing interregional fare. Your normal media can talk about a smaller harvest than usual, but if there were a drought spreading across the SLU for some reason (or crop failures), then we can bump it up to the Council of Leaders to craft a solution.
