STATEMENT ON THE LATEST REGIONAL DEVELOPMENTS
STATEMENT ON THE LATEST REGIONAL DEVELOPMENTS
Fellow Members of the Social Liberal Union,
Over the past few weeks, the Administration and Cabinet has been working vigilantly to continue the effort to improve our region and to keep it secure from foreign threats. Here are updates from each Ministry and topic of interest:
MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS: Minister Freeland and Deputy Minister Harndon have been actively reviewing regions to potentially establish embassies with, and the Ministry is looking into starting inter-regional debates with established embassies. Though there is some disagreement among Administration members on which regions would be best to create embassies with, the Ministry has appended polls to gain the opinion of the region on the proposed embassies. The Ministry has been appointing ambassadors to already-established regions as well.
MINISTRY OF IMMIGRATION: Minister Hirematia and Deputy Minister Normandy have been active on the usual Immigration business with record-keeping of residency requirements and immigration enforcement. Immigration and Domestic Affairs are looking into recruitment to increase our regional population.
MINISTRY OF DOMESTIC AFFAIRS: Minister Courelli and Deputy Minister Anaaxes have been working hard to encourage community activities and working with the Ministry of Immigration to keep the region secure from trolls and security threats. Minister Courelli has overseen the creation and growth of our new Discord server, revived the mentorship program to better integrate newcomers into our community, revived the SLU Tribune (which is set to publish its inaugural article soon), and reorganized his Ministry with new offices to handle his Ministry's numerous duties efficiently, and has revived and encouraged roleplay through the Council of Leaders, SLU Parliament, and SLU City of Culture (which are still works in progress).
The Ministry is still promoting the use of Twitter for national news or national leaders to update SLU of your nations' progress (roleplay), and is seeking to work with myself to create a World Assembly engagement/development program to promote WA membership and resolution drafting. I am very proud of Minister Courelli for his hard work though the late nights and going above and beyond to help keep the Administration informed of security threats.
REGIONAL SECURITY AND JUSTICE: As always, all Ministers and Deputy Ministers have been working together to seek out and prevent threats to the region. Not too much can be declassified to the public for the sake of the intelligence advantage, however, our counterintelligence suggests that the region continues to face the threat of foreign nations and groups seeking to infiltrate our ranks against the region's "establishment" to instill their own power. The unfortunate truth is that as a liberal region, it is to be expected that we will be targeted by ultra-conservatives or leftists that do not consider us left enough. Therefore, the Administration has to remain wary and cautious of such foreign threats and newcomers that seek to upend our region and its institutions. Whether through policy, our laws, or through the use of our judicial system, the Administration will utilize all available options within legal constitutional and statutory boundaries to defend and deter such threats. Future Administrations after this one will have to do the same.
REGIONAL LEGISLATION: The Administration has been working with Speaker Odd with the aid of our de facto legal advisor DA Deputy Minister Anaaxes to brainstorm and draft necessary legislation. We have proposed the World Assembly Waiver Act to regulate the granting of WA waivers by establishing official procedures for vetting, and an amendment to the Offences and Sentencing Act to protect authors from legislative plagiarism through consent and tighten offences to protect the democratic process. We brought back (with many changes) and passed the Comprehensive Union Defense Act to better strengthen defensive measures and procedures to defend and deter threats against the region by re-instituting the Regional Security Warning System, creating the Comprehensive Union Security Agency headed by the Chief Officer (to be appointed soon), and establishing a backup region and continuity of government procedures. We hope to propose legislation soon that will establish procedures for the judiciary that was left out of the Third Constitution into statutory law.
Our progress and some of the plans for the future have been laid out before you. If you have any questions, contact myself or a Cabinet member.
Signed,
Austerain
