Oddish Bid for Speakership comes Under Fire - 19th February 2017
After the recent declaration by the Parliament and President that the Odd Republic would seek the office of Speaker of the Union, the Oddish right wing nationalist group Oddians for Oddians Only began organizing a massive protest against the decision in the capital of Ramelium. They insist that investment in such a campaign and office by the government is a travesty, and that said money should not be taken from the taxpayer in the first place.
At the scene of the protest, several chants are heard from the crowds, which are estimated to be composed of around 500,000 people. The most common are consistent of "Oddians Matter" and "Impeach the Queen." Speaking with the protesters, two themes in particular stood out: this decision is a threat to our national sovereignty and our people, and President Olivia Guatam along with the national People's Parliament do not care about the common person.
As the impassioned masses screamed a particularly bitter set of utterances of "Impeach the Queen!" the President addressed them, in an apparent state of irritation. "I entered our great nation into this race because I saw it as a way to help shape the region, not as a way to abandon you. I did it for all Oddians, and firmly believe that serving in the position will better our nation." A collective ear-shattering boo was heard from the masses, and security officials escorted the President back into her mansion.
As passionate as the protesters are, not much can probably be expected as far as their movement is concerned. In most recent polls, the Post found that 67 percent of Oddians still support the decision to run for the Speakership. More is expected soon.

Conservatives claim Victory after Statement by Anaaxes - 20th February 2017
After a raucous protest at the President's doorstep yesterday fanned the flames over the debate concerning the Odd Republic's candidacy for Speaker of the Union, a new announcement seemed to bring some despair to the campaign's supporters: Anaaxes, a much more experienced and older member of the region, was going to run for the position.
Shortly after the announcement, the popular conservative nationalist organization Oddians for Oddians Only (which organized the protest yesterday) posted on their website that, "The common people have just witnessed a great victory. The Anaaxese campaign will destroy that of our awful President, and insure that the people won't suffer any further under the burdens of taxes."
The Post sought comment from the President, but was turned down. Some political pundits have ventured so far as to suggest that this is a sign that the President is in concurrence with Oddians for Oddians Only about one thing: The Oddish campaign for the Speakership is almost certainly sunken.

Breaking: Liberals Murdered!Today, the Odd Republic witnessed its greatest loss of life since the 1970 - 1975 War of Establishment which ended with the first Oddish constitution being established. In Ramelium, the annual gathering of Oddians for Liberalism (OfL) was attacked with VX nerve agent aerosol at 5:00 PM local time (Mountain Standard Time) Wednesday. The gathering included the President, all members of the Cabinet except Minister of Foreign Affairs Ian Shalev, the 18 liberal members of the Supreme Court (of 29 Justices), the 647 liberal MPs (of 1001 in all), and around 14000 members of the public. No-one has been successfully been recovered, and 1367 members of the gathering, including President Olivia Guatam, have been pronounced dead. This notably comes after the success of the Oddish speakership campaign, and comes directly after the contentious confirmation of conservative Miranda Fallious as Prime Minister.
More coming soon.
UPDATE: All members of the gathering have been proven dead. Prime Minister Miranda Fallious will be sworn in as President at 12:00 AM Mountain Time tomorrow, 9 March.

Fallious sworn inConservative Prime Minister Miranda Fallious demanded to be sworn in as President earlier tonight, and was at precisely 7:30 PM MST. She, in her address, mentioned nothing of the assassination hours earlier, but talked of the need to reform government in, "the people's interest," even if that required the overruling the will of the people. She now has a fully conservative Parliament ready to pass nearly anything she wishes.
Many are noting that the speech was too well thought out, and that she used a teleprompter for the address. Liberals are pressing for an investigation into the new President, noting that she can only gain from the death of the liberal members of government. Some go so far as to suggest that she ordered the attack. In any case, the Parliament is unlikely to investigate, given their idealogical leanings after the attack.
More is coming soon.

International Constitutional Summit AnnouncedAfter a busy few weeks of drafting, the Odd Republic has officially submitted to the Open Parliament of the Social Liberal Union the joint Anaaxese-Oddish draft for the constitution. It shall be holding an international summit for the weeks necessary for the passage of the new constitution.
All national leaders are welcome. The People's Parliament of the Odd Republic has appropriated enough money for housing, transport, security and comfort for each national leader for six weeks. It is inviting all SLU nations to send a national delegate or the national leader to work out the details of the constitutional proposal.

Parliament Passes Parliamentary-Regional Voting ActAfter the President suggested that Parliament should have the authority to choose what he votes for in terms of regional law, the Parliament drafted a bill to give them such powers. They decided to allow the President to introduce his preferred choice to the Parliament, and then vote on the proposal. The bill passed unanimously today, and the President happily signed it, stating that, "The People's Parliament is the ultimate democratic institution in our nation, so it ought be able to approve the manner in which I vote for regional law."
So far, three votes have been approved under the act, and none rejected.

The President was sworn in in March following the beginning of an unsuccessful coup. President Dies at 93President Ian Delano Shalev has passed away at the age of 93. The President had been ailing for several years for unknown reasons. Political opponents and allies alike praised the President. He will be buried on the 25rd of May next to former President Olivia Guatam, according to his wishes. The President had been in intensive care for weeks. Two days ago he requested to be transferred to his birthplace in New York City, where he died just one day after his 93rd birthday.
His obituary follows.
Ian Delano Shalev was born on the 20th of May, 1925 in New York City. He was well known for his academic achievement and was a prolific debater. In 1943 (at 18), he volunteered for the United States military, and was trained but never served due to the Second World War's end.
After the formation of the Great Empire of Japan, which encompassed the entire Earth, he lobbied heavily for the split of the Empire. In 1970, he got his wish and determined to reside in the Odd Nation, which encompassed North America. The country was soon embroiled in its War of Establishment, in which he served as the General of the Armies, the highest rank in Oddish military history. He led the nation's fight for democracy, and thus was considered the Founder of the Republic.
In 1976, (the 1st) President Ramelium Guatam, after whom both the capital and largest city in the Republic are named, declared then-General Shalev Vice President of the Republic, an office later abolished in 1997. Presidents to that point continued to name him as Vice President. From 1997 to 2017, he served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and was elevated to the Presidency in 2017 as the only person remaining in the line of succession. His legacy was great, and will be remembered.
This is a developing story, and updates will be posted.
