I just wanted to write a short note to express how incredibly impressed I am by what you have all achieved together.
As I eagerly catch up on regional history, familiarise myself with our constitution and acts of parliament, get to know the nations that have made the SLU their home, I am in constant awe of what an efficient, well organised, open, friendly, thriving, active and thoroughly democratic region you have all created.
For me, creating this region was a simple act. I did so, not out of a desire for power or control, or a desire to be a Founder and seek glory or impose my own rules. I did so because, much as the founding statement describes, I felt there was a gap - somewhere between socialism and liberalism, or a combination of both. The socialist regions, great as they are, I felt were mode focussed on traditional socialism, perhaps lacking a strong dedication to personal liberty; the liberal regions, equally great, I felt were not dedicated enough to social justice. And so I created the SLU for Ainland to reside in, and was humbled that other nations chose to join me. Right from day one, I was absolutely determined that this would be an entirely democratic region, with sovereignty lying entirely with the members who choose to be part of our union.
My part ended there. Never could I have imagined that such a wonderfully advanced region would flourish. So I really just wanted to express to you all how truly inspired, humbled and proud I am to be part of your great region. From the constitution to parliament, the forums to the fantastically detailed regional map, the role plays to the elections, and most of all, the over 130 great nations who call this region 'home'. There are several names I could mention here, but I would feel awful if I missed anyone, so I just want you to know that your efforts are recognised and truly appreciated.
As for my role - I do what I can to support the development and security of our region, but everything I do will be underpinned by my absolute commitment to the democracy of our union and the sovereignty of its members.
So thank you, and well done :)
