I was looking at some election RP threads on NSG and this got me wondering about the political landscapes of nations in our own region.
In Chameliya there are 5 (or 7 - depending on how one classifies the Peoples' Alliance) parties.
NATIONAL CONGRESS
The oldest party in Chameliya. A liberal, centre-left leaning party. Popular amongst businesspeople and the middle classes. Currently the senior party in government.
SOCIALIST PARTY
The traditional rival to NC. An orthodox democratic socialist party with moderate tendencies. Popular amongst students, trade unions and the lower middle and working classes. Currently the junior party in government.
UNIFIED COMMUNISTS
Insurgent leftist force formed in the 1990s by radical wing of the Socialist Party. Far-left republican and atheist party. Popular amongst the intelligensia, agricultural workers and disadvantaged ethnicities and castes. Largest opposition in parliament.
PEOPLES' ALLIANCE
Group of three parties that caucus together representing interests of Madhesi, Janajati and Leki ethnic groups. Big tent party with centre-left leaning and ethnofederalist factions. Fourth largest grouping in parliament.
NATIONAL DEMOCRATS
Historically significant but with vastly diminished support in recent years. Centre-right traditionalist party. Historically supported by the middle classes, now supported by conservatives supporters and some religious groups. Smallest party in parliament.

In Mons Garle, the parties tend to be divided less politically and more ethnically due to the nation's colonial history - (though this is now beginning to change).
Die Demokratische Partei (DP)
Currently the largest party in Mons Garle, the DP is a centre-right liberal party. Its core vote comes from the descendants of the Germanic colonists, who make up about 20% of the country. More recently it has begun to gain votes from other groups due its recent policy changes with regard to equal treatment and diversification.
Die Konservative Partei (KSP)
Smaller minority party that has its vote base in rural German-speaking areas - the KSP is much more traditional and conservative than the mainstream DP. It is currently the sixth largest party. It is deeply Lutheran and still opposes ethnic integration, equal marriage, and making Áyentse and English national languages alongside Mons Garlean German.
Téwe Áyentseiá (TA)
The second largest party in Mons Garle, this democratic-socialist party forms the opposition in the lower house and has traditionally represented the Native peoples of Mons Garle's interior regions. The party is also picking up votes from those who wish to see an alternative to pro-capitalist government.
Ubulungiswa (UB)
Traditionally the party that represented Mons Garle's black minority - the UB is a regarded as a radical left-wing/marxist party that calls for the nationalistion of state industries, and the downfall of the capitalist system. This party is now the fifth largest in parliament, having seen many of its voters move toward the more centrist parties.
The Moderate Party (MP)
The most centrist of all the parties, the MP has traditionally catered to the country's English-speaking minority in Leopolderhügel, however it is now the third-largest party in parliament, as a result of its increasingly popular set of policies that favours neither the left nor the right.
Die Grüne/The Greens (GP)
Currently the fourth-largest grouping, the Greens are typically left-wing liberals who support environmentally-friendly and sustainable policies that aim to reduce carbon emissions and preserve the world's flora and fauna. Although previously a party of middle-income professionals with leftist leanings, the party is now attracting votes from both the TA and UB.
Unity/Einheit/Ubunye (UN)
The seventh-largest party, Unity is a primarily pacifist/irreligious movement that seeks disarmament and disestablishment. Although it was formed only five years ago, the party is now in the running to become part of a left-wing coalition after the next election. Due its newcomer status, the party has attracted votes from every group and has no "core" vote.

There is an old archive thread of this name and nature that I took part in more than two years ago after entering the SLU: socialliberal.proboards.com/thread/1558/political-parties-nationThe information on there has changed though because Kanoria is no longer like Kanoria was then... Some of it still holds true though, so I will spoiler the old version, and write a new one. Previous: There are over 12000 political parties in Kanoria.
The party that has been in power, and is most popular, holding over 40% of popular support year on year, is the party 'Outcasts'. The second party, that supplies a further 24% of the vote, and thus several ministers, is 'Grema (Coalition of woodland)'. The third party, supplying a small number of ministers, and around 16% of the vote. Is the (relatively) conservative 'Restraint' party. Fourth, comes the 'int-er-grate party' weighing in at 8%, having two ministers. the smallest party with any ministers, is 'Tame', the nationalist force.
Various smaller parties have voices in the Serat-co. Several Advocates in the second house (Trell'e-co) chose to ally themselves with parties. And the third house (Mes'sehna-co) is made up of experts, elected by various groups such as universities and science foundations, think tanks. The third house also often sends delegations to the other two houses to inform debates. The leader of this house is permanently assigned to give information to the cabinet.
There is a highly contested political landscape across the Truast Leysa, though not organised in the same sense as many other nations. Due to the unusual constituency structure that is based on self nominated demographic, the 'Local Party' is not a common body to belong to. Instead individuals are often part of 'limbs' of parties that represent that constituency, and may be spread between multiple nations, and campaign for seemingly opposing policies to another member. A party in the TL is largely about a philosophical standpoint and moral judgement so the details of what a person believes in can be truly unique. All parties have to be internally democratic, therefore a parties eventual standpoint tends to come from a short internal poll of it's members, however policy can be varied by it's leadership provided that the party base does not choose to overrule such a decision. As multiple levels of government exist, and each has multiple chambers (two elected and one unelected as well as an elected cabinet), it is far from unheard of for a Leysaner to be a member of one party limb for the purpose of Leysannic elections, another for national, a third for regional, and a fourth for local. Each tier of government (from Leysannic to Local in that order) deals decreasingly with policy and law, and increasingly with implementation of said policy, hence how such a structure can exist. It has been many years since a party last commanded a share of the vote for any election in excess of twenty percent, and thus due to the sheer number of parties of note, only the leysannic ones are detailed below. Once the most popular party Kastamiðla (Outcasts) can now only claim somewhere between the three and four percentage point mark on most Leysannic elections. Despite it's progressive policies and positive stance on equality and rights, the party simply has not recovered since one of it's former leaders was escorted from a public swimming pool in scenes that later lead to him being placed in protective custody. Skipa (put in order) has taken over a large share of Kastamiðla's former voting base, having splintered off from them shortly after the fateful incident with the filtration system. This grouping tends towards very close ties to the rest of the SLU, and favours a degree of globalisation, which has lead to them having great success with being elected to miǫtviðr óðr, but limited in other ministerial elections, however they place well in Serat-Co and Trell'e-Co elections, scoring ten to twelve percent of a typical vote. Grema (Enviromentalist Coalition) then scores similar vote totals (around Eleven to thirteen percent), and performs exceptionally well in elections where living standards of the poorest are a big issue. The real strength of Grema is at a local level though, where the party often commands eighteen percent of the vote. One of two right major right-wing parties, fjǫtra (Restrain) polls only slightly higher total numbers (at around fourteen percent each time), but seldom win ministerial portfolios outright, and have one of two ministers attached to a department. This party is often considered by the public to be best at revising legislation to fix loopholes, and reduce inefficiency, such an attitude annoys the party faithful who believe the primary message of the party to be either 'everyone should care for eachother a little bit less' or 'we need something more like that market thing they have elsewhere, not exactly like it mind'. The other major right wing, firmly isolationist, and Leysannic civic nationalistic party is Leysfyrr (Leys first). This party is constantly dogged by it's clashes with other nationalistic parties, all of whom agree that the TL needs less involvement with the outside world, but can never settle on where the decisions should be taken. Though occasionally popular, Leysfyrr would normally poll around eight to ten percent. Currently the largest party is Vammblindr (Blind to faults) at the most recent election to Serat-co this far left party with a good economic record managed to increase it's vote share and number of ministers continuing the long standing trend. It's popularity is thought to have an eventual resting place of somewhere between nineteen and twenty-one percent of the vote, making it easily the most popular party, though not able to govern without support, which it tends to gather on a measure by measure basis. Representing various concerned religious minorities Biðja (prayer) contributes a declining five to seven percent of the vote, and is generally considered to be controlled by foreign interests, due to it's constant attempts to reduce free speech. Mannvitallr (All human intelligence) is a party that follows in Plato's school of thought re knowledge and ignorance, hence it polls a respectable twelve to sixteen percent, though it is highly unpopular after humanitarian disasters. Finally there are a number of smaller parties that score respectable vote shares, this includes the majority of the more authoritarian parties by Leysannic standards.

(OOC: My old info was out-of-date, too, seeing as back then Avaerilon didn't have its own languages, for a start!)
Avaerilon has a tricameral system, comprised of Parliament, which is further sub-divided into an upper and lower house, and then the Royal Court. Political parties are actively involved in the first two cases, especially in the lower house, the House of Commons. Modern political history really starts in the mid-1600s, with the emergence of two prominent groups of nobles, the Royalists and the Tories. These two would eventually help found the basis for the Liberal and Conservative parties, respectively. During the 1800s, Avaerilonian politics was largely a two-party affair, but the 1900s saw more coalitions and a wider variety of parties on the political scene. Today, the country is regarded as having 6 main parties, 4 of which are seen as the "key" parties. Voting for the Commons takes place every 5 years through a national vote, with seats allocated proportional to votes, while voting for the Lords occurs every 7 years. Y Cyndelfīnlen Libreddelīon (The Alliance of Liberals): Avaerilon's oldest political party is generally regarded as the most successful, having governed as a majority for longer than any other one party. Formed in the early 1800s between an alliance of royalist nobles, academics, reformists, wizards and professionals, the party has experienced both highs and lows since, but today governs with a comfortable majority. With an ideology centred-around social liberalism, civil libertarianism, Avaerilonian federalism, internationalism and environmentalism, the party is popular with a traditional core of intellectuals, professionals, students, ethnic minorities, mages, royalists and farmers. The part is seen as having strongholds in central and northern Fereldan and on the island of Vanlonil, in central and east Arnalor, western Morrowind and the far north of Dunaemair. The Liberals are viewed as the most pro-royalist party in Avaerilon alongside the most favourable to magic, in-addition to their other views. Y Sernfelyddelīon (The Centrists):After the disastrous election of 1875, which saw the Tories lose a record number of votes, there was a split in the Conservative party by a moderate faction who felt the party had become authoritarian, unsympathetic to ordinary citizens, and moved a little too far rightward economically. These people called themselves the Centrists. Alongside the obvious centrism that is core to their values, they value moderate politics, civil libertarianism, internationalism, pacifism and egalitarianism. Often seen as the main "kingmaker" coalition partner, the Centrists have never governed on their own at a federal level, but have partnered with each of the three other major parties at various times. Popular in eastern Fereldan, central Morrowind and western Arnalor, the Centrists derive much of their support from families, professionals, moderates, small businesses, the more spiritual folk and ethnic minorities. They have voiced their approval of the current Liberal administration, although have have opposed certain policies. Y Qeladelīon (The Conservatives):The second oldest Avaerilonian political party was created by non-royalist nobles, republicans, landowners, merchants and some nationalist groups in Morrowind and Dunaemair as a response to the Liberals and their victory in 1825. Long the second party of Avaerilonian politics, the Tories as they are popularly known do not enjoy quite the same levels of support they have had in the past, but nevertheless remain an influential part of the political landscape. With strong support in southern Morrowind, north Vvardenfell, eastern Fereldan and parts of central Dunaemair, the Tories appeal to business people, the wealthy, certain non-professionals and soft republicans. Although once quite pro-republic, the party has softened that stance somewhat over time, while retaining core values of conservatism, federalism, civic nationalism and pro-free market policies as well as some arcanosceptic (i.e. not especially favourable towards magic) politics. Yr Weldemelīon Cantasol (The Social Democrats):Originally a hardline socialist party formed by socialist intellectuals, unskilled labourers, non-professionals and republicans, the party mellowed in the face of public distaste to become the modern social democratic party we see today with the Social Democrats. The Social Democrats have maintained a number of governments both as coalition partner and on their own, including the previous government, and believe in social democracy, democratic socialism, civic nationalism, certain elements of soft arcanoscepticism and equality. Currently most of their support comes from non-professionals, soft republicans, those on lower incomes and students, and they are popular in central and southern Dunaemair, and certain parts of western and eastern Fereldan. Gamhrad Daynul Resdayn (Resdayn National Party):Displeased with a lessening in commitment to the nationalistic side of Morrowindian politics in the Conservative party, the RNP emerged at the beginning of the 20th Century as a party focussed on Morrowindian independence and nationalism. Today the party has lost a certain radical edge about it, but nevertheless remains focussed on Morrowindian independence, Dunmeri nationalism, morality, Daedracism, centralism and isolationism. Drawing support from religious groups, nationalists, traditionalists, social conservatives and certain small businesses, the RNP is popular in parts of northern Vvardenfell, east Vvardenfell and central and southern Morrowind. Páirdin Phéinaol na Dúnémair (People's Party of Dunaemair):Modern Dunaemairan nationalist politics emerged in the early 20th Century, after traditional support for the Tories started to decline and the Social Democrats moderated their approach. Originally the DNP was the main part supporting Dunaemairan nationalism, but a scandal involving an armed terror group effectively ended the party, which voluntarily dissolved. The PPnD emerged as a more progressive group, committed to eventual independence but more than happy to work as part of the system with a broadly federal, civic nationalist, democratic socialist approach. The PPnD draws support in central Dunaemair from ordinary employees, non-professionals, soft-republicans and the like.

Further to my previous post on Leysannic parties, the following are the major Leysan-Sluan parties: Fylgja: (to go along with): Left wing populists and strong believers in democracy, this party has a tendency to hold mercurial policies on a lot of issues, but will almost always vote for a deepening of democratic values, and the spreading of democracy. Almáttigr (Almighty): Essentially the very worst incarnation of a conspiracy theory-one that proved itself right. Before the re-emergence of the TLHT from it's long isolation back into the world at large, the consensus in government was that all countries would be moving toward equal opportunity governance. The Cult of Almáttigr was a fringe group that believed that the world would be getting more dangerous, and less equal. With re-emergence came an economic crash in the Truast Leysa, and the projection of Almáttigr was partially vindicated. Though the vast proportion of the public rejected the responses they suggested (IE, the belief that the Laysanners should rise up through betrayal and any other means of power grabbing that it could to become almighty). Brjóta:Brjótani (Exertion:Distribution): Left libertarians that believe in a small government, but with many functions that enable freedoms. Veita (Give Back): A Left wing party that refuses to co-operate with most parties on most issues, believing that all other systems of belief are being manipulated or are enemies of socialist purity. This party will almost always attempt to alter the wording of any measure in an attempt to 'purify' the intent. Mœta Háttr (Deal with Behaviours): A party that is devoted to evidence based policy, but always views it through the prism of its founding aims and principles, those two competing identities sometimes result in internal divisions, especially as many of it's members instincts push the party toward the left from the point set by the founding values, lovers of Anthropology and great believers in Social Engineering. Háski Heill Góðr (Danger is good for the health): Extreme right-wingers, small in number, but willing to try almost anything to preserve their thrill-seeking way of life, and to impose it, their sense of honour and strict hierarchy on others. According to this group you must win your right to freedom by rising up a hierarchy. Will be very snooty when dealing with other politicians. Helzt (Most willingly): Right-Libertarian and "personal nationalists", Helzt will resist any attempt to reduce freedoms as they percieve them, but are very unwilling to agree to any idea of social change, especially not if they view it as engineered. Eigaverja (Duty to protect): Authoritarian environmentalists and militarists, but also believers in strong social welfare. Believes in a federal SLU. Leita Sannindi Verða (Make the Truth Come to Pass): Also believers in evidence, and will go to great lengths to find it, and will also try to use any opportunity to take what it regards as the most compassionate position. Very pro co-operation and will regularly offer deals and likewise accept them with parties of any colour. Will almost never vote to reduce the size of government, but will vote to reduce the intrusion of it. Leysfyrr Whilst not actually represented in the SLU directly, but more than willing to skirt the edges of the law and put a lot of pressure on many representatives from the TLHT, especially via the media.
