After receiving a formal invitation from Labour and Socialist International (LSI), the outgoing Cabinet of the SLU unanimously supported the idea and thus to proceed further require that the member states of the region vote on this matter. If you support the establishment of an embassy with LSI, please vote aye. If you do not support the establishment of an embassy with LSI, please vote nay. If you do not feel strongly enough either way, you may abstain. Please confirm that you have voted by posting below. The result will be considered legally binding, and be announced after 7 days of voting (starting from 1600 UTC 1 on 11/11/14, ending at 1600 UTC 1 on 18/11/14). Information on LSI as per meeting our usual requirements is included below. PROS:- They have at least 20 active members
- Their members are by-and-large nations that meet our requirements
- They do have a regional government
- They're active
- We share a number of beliefs
CONS:- They do have a large number of embassies already (i.e. potential collector, and while most of them are "left-wing," they are not always democratic)
- They're only just above the 20 active nation minimum
- Their regional government isn't quite full yet and is perhaps a little shaky on first appearances

I would support this, we can help this region grow, and very little of what it stands for is actively opposed to us, though it could probably use a slightly stronger democracy, hopefully, as it grows, it will attain it. And an extra ally wouldn't hurt. We can always remove links again if they prove not to be a good ally, or to shrink from democracy.

I have voted. It might be worth keeping an eye on them for a while should we vote to build an embassy with them. Their founder has executive powers so I think it would be wise to make sure he has honourable intentions and honours their constitution. Like Kan says, we can always cut ties with them if need be.
EDIT: It's probably also worthwhile diplomatically but firmly expressing our expectations of an allied region and that having an embassy with is not a trophy but a serious interregional commitment.

That's a good idea. If the Open Parliament permits, then we shall accept the embassy request and send a TG along with it. I have voted.

Some quick remarks from your ministry of Foreign Affairs: The plan is certainly, if the embassy is indeed established, to not only make sure they know what we expect from our embassies, as Jas and Anaaxes discussed, but also offer our help and expertise in maintaining a fully functional regional government, something I dare say we are rather good at. As such, I see this as a great opportunity to help an up-and-coming similarly-minded region achieve its full potential. NS needs more enthusiastic leftist regions like them.

I'm glad this has gone through :) I'd also be happy to become the new ambassador, though I'm unsure as to the procedure surrounding the selection of such a position.

Ambassadors are usually appointed by the Minister of FA - I'll be sure to take note of your interest, Westerheim, when I look into appointing one soon.
