INFRASTRUCTURE SECURITY UNDER SCRUTINY Older stations with non-solid perimeter fences, like shown above, can pose a serious security vulnerability. After recent attacks on power substations by unknown assailants, the Electrical Infrastructure Protection Service (EIPS) has been grilled by the Senate, Inspector General, and even the President. The apparently organized attacks occurred about 30 kilometers away from the city of Christophsis. The attacks occurred around midnight, and interrupted power service to over 50,000 residents in a suburb of Christophsis. The EIPS currently only guards power stations in major cities and metropolitan areas, leaving smaller cities largely unprotected. The National Guard has been called in until the EIPS can organize security personnel for all power stations in Anaaxes. New federal regulations now require solid security walls/fences around all new power stations. CIGARETTES AND CIGARS ILLEGALIZED
Trucks loaded with crates of cigarettes and cigars en route to a federal facility for destruction.
Following a fierce battle in the Senate, all types of cigarettes and cigars are now illegal to smoke, manufacture, purchase, store, or otherwise posses. All companies and individuals are required to surrender them to the federal government for destruction immediately. Non-compliance is punishable by up to $500 for individuals and up to $750 for companies per violation. Medical exemptions and other exemptions are permitted by appealing to the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals. The ban is expected to save thousands of lives and billions of Anaaxes Credits in healthcare and other expenses throughout the country. The Customs & Border Protection Service and the Coast Guard are allocating additional officers and personnel to help prevent any illegal smuggling and other activities following the ban. The ban was passed in a 170-125 vote.

OVER 7,000 FEDERAL SCHOOL POLICE OFFICERS SWORN IN
New federal school police officers at a swearing-in ceremony in Serenno
The Chief Justice sworn in over 7,000 new federal police officers a ceremony today. The Department of Domestic Security in cooperation with the federal and state Departments of Education have been working with school districts across the country to get school resource officers for every school in Anaaxes. This first group of officers will be sent to the most high-risk schools while the government is working to train additional officers. This move comes after a new study by the Department of Justice found that school violence was shockingly on a rapid rise. Currently, many school districts rely on costly private firms and the already limited pool of local and county police officers. The Senate authorized an additional 2 billion Anaaxes Credits for perimeter fences, security cameras, alarm systems, and some bulletproofing.

MAJOR RIOT IN ANAAXES PRISON
Federal prison guards in full riot equipment.
A federal prison was placed under lockdown following a major riot incident earlier this week. Several fights occurred shortly after the breakfast eating period, and they eventually escalated into a full-scale riot. The warden of the prison, Mark Hendrickson, placed the facility under lockdown and initiated riot control protocols. An additional 150 federal and local law enforcement officers were called in to assist. During the riot, two prison guards and a guard dog were killed. Eight prisoners were fatally wounded by guard gunfire. After guards and police retook control of the prison, many prisoners involved were moved to solitary confinement. Over one hundred people sustained non-life threatening injuries, and are being treated by on-site medical personnel with the help of paramedics. This is one of the most deadliest riots in any federal prison. The Attorney General stated at a press conference that none of the prison staff will be facing any charges. However, a grand jury indicted 83 prisoners on many counts ranging from: assaulting a federal officer or animal, murdering a federal officer or animal, and disorderly conduct. Federal prosecutors will be seeking the death penalty in three of the cases. The President and members of the Senate have condemned the riot and offered their condolences to the families affected.
