3. History
Vidamu was first settled by humans tens of thousands of years ago, but a volcanic eruption wiped out the majority of these people. The next wave of settlers was the Aeliu, who settled all of the islands approximately 2300 BC. Five hundred years later, the next wave of settlement, the Vidam tribes, came. The Vidams came to dominate the northern islands of Vidamu.
The Vidamese city states first began to arise year 600 BC, and they slowly made colonies across the rest of the islands. In the year 100 BC, a large colony on the southern island of Pandaru broke away from the city-state that controlled it. This nation, Albaru, conquered the rest of Pandaru from the Aeliu, and conquered all the rest of the Aeliu lands in the southern islands, as well as most of the southern Vidamese city states. This empire reached its height by 100 AD, and from then on would slowly decline.
Buddhism had first entered the nation in 51 BC in Albaru from Chinese traders, and from Albaru it slowly spread across Vidamu. One Albaru finally broke up in 234, discrimination against Buddhists stopped and it became the dominant religion in the new small Vidamese kingdoms. These kingdoms would war amongst each other until year 1005, where the remaining two kingdoms would unite by dynastic union to create Vidamu. The Vidamese would colonize Oyberu, the last hold-out of the Aeliu, and the Aeliu ethnicity would be absorbed into the Vidamese one.
Vidamu continued to grow and prosper after the unification. In the thirteenth century international trade began to pick up, and even more so after 1500. Vidamu became powerful enough to successfully resist European imperialism. The last emperor abdicated peacefully in 1903, making Vidamu a republic.
