THE ASSOCIATION OF NON-NUCLEAR STATES To the fellow nations of the Social Liberal Union, Allow me to introduce myself; my name is Teleri Valnamarys, appointed to co-ordinate the founding of this organisation by the government of His Most Royal Majesty the King, following a proposal by His Majesty which was approved in the Royal Court and then carried through the Houses of Parliament in Avaerilon. This organisation, the Association of Non-Nuclear states, seeks to further the means of peace, security and the future of the environment by supporting the nuclear-free statuses of nations and by encouraging and helping nations to become nuclear-free.Avaerilon is proud of its status as a nuclear-free country. We have never had nuclear weapons in our possession or on our soil, and no nuclear reactor has ever been constructed within our borders. The only radioactive material that does not occur naturally is that used in hospitals for the treatment of certain ailments. We appreciate that several other SLUan states share the same non-nuclear background, and would like to work more closely together to co-operatively encourage more nations to disband nuclear weapons and find alternative sources of energy. We are happy to house the offices of this organisation in Avaerilon for the time being, but would be more than willing to re-locate the head offices to any other nation who would like to house them. Currently, the offices are located in Lyndainium, Fereldan. To states interested in joining us, we would like to draw your attention to the criteria: - To have no nuclear weapons, active or inactive, in the possession of the nation's military
- To have no weapons-grade plutonium or any other fissile material of that nature in the possession of the nation's government
- To house no nuclear weapons or fissile material of a military nature on-behalf of another nation
- To have no operational nuclear reactors (fission, fusion or otherwise) present in the nation, and to have completed any decommissioning of reactors if applicable
- To not house any nuclear storage-facility that continues to accept fissile material
It is my hope, and indeed the hope of My Liege, that we can foster a new age of peace, understanding, and environmental stewardship in the region by joining-together and working to assist others achieve the same level of personal and environmental security that being nuclear-free entails. I look forward to meeting you in due-course. Best wishes,

From The United Democracy of Scientists Committee for International Affairs:We would like to respectfully decline joining this organization. The UDS gains a very significant fraction of its electricity from nuclear power. Our reactors are placed in locations isolated from areas with high population densities and places prone to environmental disasters. Not only this, but our reactors are very well built and regulated. Not once have we even had an incident, and you can verify this with the UDS Department of Energy Production and Distribution if you wish. It is our stance that as long as nuclear power is well understood and controlled, it is one of the safest sources of energy at one's disposal. The statistics would in fact agree with us. Less deaths have resulted from Nuclear power than most other energy sources, including renewable energy sources.Nuclear waste is also handled well. As we are planning to do with Bigtopia's high-level radioactive material, assuming they give us permission, all radioactive material which can not be rendered harmless is launched into heliocentric orbit, where it is safely far away from any major celestial body. On top of all of this, getting rid of nuclear technology would deal a major blow to our space program. The UDS Department of Space Exploration relies heavily on the use of nuclear technology as a means of propulsion and power production in spacecraft. Radioisotope thermoelectric generators are regularly used to keep spacecraft powered in the outer solar system, where solar panels are not as efficient. For propulsion, NERVA engines and different forms of nuclear pulse propulsion systems are regularly used for expeditions to the planets which would be either impossible or incredibly difficult and expensive with conventional means of propulsion. It is for these reasons that we shall not be a signatory state of this organization. In the event that a similarly proposed organization is created for unnecessary use of fossil fuels, we will gladly sign, but nuclear power is simply too important and useful to our infrastructure.

Recipient: The Honourable Government of the United Democracy of ScientistsSubject: RE Decline
To the Honourable and Appropriate authority, Thank you for confirming your position. I appreciate the stance of your nation with regards to nuclear power and the suchlike, and do not wish to give you the impression that we seek to undermine your nation's continued usage of nuclear power and the suchlike. This is not, however, a platform to argue for or against that which is nuclear; rather this is a group for nations in the previously-mentioned nuclear-free category to come together, co-operate and promote alternatives where appropriate. We respect the safety of the industry in your nation, and are quite aware of the benefits of nuclear power, but we will not be swayed in our continued dedication to seeking alternatives, nor seeking to build relationships with states who share our beliefs. I am sure there is somewhere at some other time it may well be appropriate for various leaders and representatives to debate the merits and issues with regards to this subject; it is not here, however. Kind regards,
