This thread lays-out the basic terms, rules and guidelines of the sign-up, prose role-plays of the SLU. Feel free to ask any question relating to this thread- I will try to answer them as quickly as possible.
GLOSSARY OF TERMS:
Prose Role-Play: the "traditional" kind of role-play (RP) often played-out over the internet. Examples of it can be found throughout the forums of NationStates. It is named "prose" after its continuous literary style- like telling a story. Any member state or ambassador can create one of these.
Sign-Ups: threads where nations wishing to take-part in RPs officially join, thus being allowed to post in the actual role-play threads once they've started. Informal and OOC thread. Nations can join late (i.e. after the role-play has actually begun), but only if it is convenient and if the creator of the RP permits it.
OOC: stands for "Out-Of Character." Text not in the character of the person, persons, government, et. al. involved in the RP. Usually nations just communicating with each other or enclosing text outside of the bounds of the RP; e.g. the sign-ups, congratulating someone on a nice seal, etc.
IC: stands for "In-Character." Text in the character of the person, persons, government, et. al. involved in the RP. Makes up the majority of the RP text.
Mod: short for "Moderator." The person who ensures the RPs are running to the standard expected in the region. The mod is the Secretary of Activities(Avaerilon).
PM: short for "Private Message." Used throughout the SLU forum.
Barred: when the mod ejects a person from an RP for breaking the rules. Once barred, a person is not allowed to post in the RP.
Tech: the level of technological sophistication expected in the RP.
MT: "Modern Tech." Comparable to today's technology, although tech from the post-war (1945) period before now would still technically count.
FT: "Future Tech." The usual sci-fi sort of technology involving advanced space-travel and energy weapons, etc.
FanT: "Fantasy Tech." Based-around the non-industrialised and magic-wielding technology seen in many sci-fi fantasy games, books and films.
Other techs may include MedT (Medieval Tech), DAT (Dark-Age Tech), RenT (Renaissance Tech), VT (Victorian Tech), or GWT (Great War Tech).

RULES:
- No godmodding! You can't send troops into an area, only to get ambushed by enemies, but then reveal they had 100% bullet-proof armour and all survived, killing their attackers. Be reasonable.
- No ridiculous numbers! Unless you're in some FT scenario involving space-empires, you can't have a billion plasma cannons or 20 Death Stars.
- Respect the mod! He is using his own free time to make sure everyone has a good time, and took the trouble to set this whole thing up nicely. Cut slack would be appreciated.
- Please don't swear at people OOC. It's not nice, and is in-contravention of our forum rules.
- If swearing in IC, use asterisks instead of vowels. Be sensible.
- Keep to the tech specified. You will get barred if in a FanT scenario you decide to come in with gattling guns. If you are unsure about just what is allowed, ask whoever is setting-up the RP in the OOC thread.
- Use good spelling, grammar and story-telling! It makes the RP easy-to-follow and more fun for your peers. If English is not your first language, or you have difficulty writing it, we will all understand. It might be a good idea to let everyone know in the OOC thread first.
- Be a good sport. If someone genuinely beats you at something, then accept it like a gentleman (or lady). Don't mash the keyboard and spam the thread with caps-locked messages of hate. You will get... barred!
- Consistency is essential. Remember those numbers of bombers you definitely had and confirmed? Well, they haven't grown magically since last time, which is convenient for you defending against someone. Stick to your original posts. If you do something, you can't deny it. The mod won't like that, and neither will anyone else.
- Have fun! RPs are there for you and your buddies to get a kick out of :)
