Go on, tell us about the main political parties in your nation. Or, if you don't have parties, tell us about the most prominent figures in your political circles.
"Centre-left to radical centre," Social Liberalism, Federalism, Environmentalism, Localism, Internationalism, Progressivism, Civil Libertarianism[/b]
Avaerilon's oldest and largest party, the Liberals were founded in the 1700s as a coalition of philosophers, writers, intelligentsia, and radicals. Generally very popular in Fereldan and Arnalor, the Liberals currently govern as a majority government in the federal House of Commons, and as a senior coalition partner in Arnalor with the Centrists, whom they govern with in a junior capacity in Morrowind, and likewise with the Social Democrats in Dunaemair. Since local elections have been held, Fereldan has never once had a government without the Liberals, who regard the isle as their central base. Popular among a variety of people, it is usually well-qualified professionals, actors, writers, environmentalists, various ethnic minorities and students who vote for the Liberals, along with some members of the middle-class. Throughout history, the Liberals have been the biggest supporters of the monarchy and have shaped much of the nation's envied university system.[/spoiler]
"Centre," Moderation, Responsible Capitalism, Economic Liberalisation, Progressivism, Localism, Federalism
When a group of very moderate Conservatives found their party to be too economically right-wing, too authoritarian and too anti-monarchy, they split from the party to from the Centrists. Popular in various parts of Avaerilon, recently they have become the largest party in Morrowind, ending the usual power the Tories have held over the isle. They also govern as the junior partner with the Liberals in the Arnalorian parliament. Popular with parents, the middle-classes and especially small-businesses, the Centrists are currently the second-party of Avaerilon. Often called key-makers due to their co-operative nature, the Centrists are seldom without some power in Avaerilon's complex political structure.
"Centre-left to left" Social-Democratic, Democratic Socialism, Social Justice
Founded in the late 1800s, this coalition of trades unions, left-wing teachers, working people and radical philosophers was once a mildly authoritarian and antagonistic party, which aimed to topple the democratically-elected monarch with a President appointed by the largest party. However, due to their relative unpopularity with many Avaerilonians, the party lost this edge and soon became much like the old social-democratic parties of Europe, with an emphasis on healthcare and education for non-academics. Popular with working people, the elderly, teachers and doctors, the Social Democrats are very popular in Dunaemair, where they currently govern as the senior partner in a coalition with the Liberals. They have some popularity in both Arnalor and Fereldan, but are few and far between in Morrowind.
"Centre to centre-right," Economic Liberalisation, Liberal Conservatism, Classical Liberalism, Moderate Moralism
Historically the second party of Avaerilon, the Conservatives were founded as a coalition of wealthy merchants, religious leaders and republicans, and were thus hostile to the monarchy for some time. Having moderated over time, the party could now be compared to "the left wing" of moderate conservative parties across the world. The Tories are still very popular in Morrowind, and do have support in Fereldan and Arnalor, though little in Dunaemair. The party continues to get much of its support from members of the larger business community and white-collar workers, along with the wealthy and those who feel somewhat SLUan-sceptic.
"Right," Morrowish Independence, Moralism, Conservatism, Social Conservatism, Dunmer Nationalism, Republicanism, Theism, Agrarianism
The RNP is the nationalist party from Morrowind, formed by various Dunmer wishing to leave the kingdom and revert to the old days of a temple-led republic of social classes, religion and strict immigration. Originally, most RNP supporters were the staunchest of Conservatives, but as the party moderated, these nationalists felt dissatisfied, especially when the Tories became somewhat Federalist and supportive of the monarchy. While the RNP is no longer the mildly racist party it once was, there is a lot of suspicion amongst many Avaerilonians about this "traditionalist" party's intentions. Few middle-class Dunmer vote for this party; it is mostly the working classes and wealthy business people, along with moralists and the more religious that support the RNP.
"Left," Dunaemairan Independence, Gaelic Nationalism, Democratic Socialism, Internationalism, Disarmament, Environmentalism
A far cry from the staunchly red-flag Socialist DNP, this more moderate and modern party still espouses independence for the northern isle, but shies away from the angry rhetoric that used to characterise the DNP. Formed by members of the DNP who reviled at the former's links with the SNS terrorist group, and were less extreme about nationalism and socialism, the PPD is gaining ground with nationalist voters, although this group identifies itself less than 5% in current polls. Prepared to work with other parties and the federal Parliament, this party could well make a significant mark in Avaerilonian history.
"Far-left to left," Socialism, Dunaemairan Independence, Anti-Capitalism, Anti-Monarchism, Gaelic Nationalist, Pan-Socialism, Marxist-Leninism
The DNP came-into being during the 1930s, when the more radical, hardcore left of the Social Democrats split and formed their own clique, with visions of "freeing" the people of Dunaemair from capitalism and Avaerilon. Its vote share peaked in the '30s and '70s, but never got above 10%, because even nationalists suspected the party of being an intolerant, ultra-Marxist body. This would seem to be true, when in 2012, the party was proved to have damnable links to the SNS terrorist group. Now suspended and with no representation, many feel this party will die in the shadows, with less than 0.25% of voters supporting the party.
