Professor Gary Oak stood and began to organize his lab. He was expecting visitors later, and wanted to be prepared for them. He lined up rows of potential starter pokemon that new trainers could choose from before starting their journey. He organized them into three groups - a fire-type group, a water-type group, and a grass-type group. Each trainer who came to him that day would get to choose one of them, and one of them might be able to someday become the next Pokemon master.
He walked over to the computer and begin to scroll through the day's news. He found yet another article comparing him to his father. He looked at the headline: "Will Professor Gary Oak Ever Live Up To His Father's Legacy?" With disgust he closed down the computer. He gazed at the photo on his desk of himself, the Pokemon League Champion, immediately after he'd defeated the Elite Four, and just before he had lost to his old rival. A failure. That's what he'd been considered by all. But that title would not follow him much longer.
He sat behind the table littered with Pokeballs, and waited for the new trainers to arrive.

Monterio walked into Professor Oak's lab with his black leather jacket, sunglasses still on his face, and his hands in his pockets. Strutting towards Professor Oak, Monterio quickly glanced at the balls on the table. They were your average kind of ball, red on top and white on the bottom, but within them, he knew, were some pokemon.
"Hey Oak, how's about you give me one of those pokemon in those balls? Seems like you have more than you need there," Monterio said to Oak. "If you've gots any charmanders in there, could you point to it?"
Monterio, after being told by Oak that he could only take it if he would help with some research and after a lengthy lecture about pokemon morality, grabbed the pokeball with the charmander in it and started towards the door.
Monterio turned around to Oak and told him as he backed out of the lab, "Old man, you are going to be so glad that you let me have him. See ya!"

As Oak walked back in, he noticed Austin standing by the poke balls. He walked over to his computer and yet Austin didn't stir. He was clearly fascinated by the red and white balls. Oak let boy stare on. After about 15 minutes, he noticed that he was fixated on one and one only. It was the poke ball that contained a Mudkip. Oak asked "Would you like that Pokemon?"
Austin broke from his constant stare and replied " Of course sir!".
Oak handed the poke ball to Austin ran all the way home.
