What is your favorite book and why? Would you read it again? What type of people would like it? Answer all these questions in this thread, and if you have any questions about a book, ask about it.

My favorite book is "The Joy Luck Club." I really enjoyed it because I learned alot more about the Chinese culture and there was never a moment I got bored with it. People who like this book would be people who like to read Mother Daughter books or want to learn more about some of the Chinese Culture in the 1940's.

Well, "The Hobbit" is my Bible ;D Tolkein was a genius, and "The Hobbit" is just fantastic; the details, the places, the sense of adventure, and of course the characters. I shudder to think what that fool of a man Peter Jackson will do to it via film!

And I can't say that that is anywhere near being my favorite book. There is barely a coherent plot line, the characters don't inspire me, and its use as a textbook by some people turns me off. I'd much prefer The Hobbit (I remember that it was a good read when I read it many years ago, but that's all I remember of it really :P) over the Bible.
If I really had to choose, I'd pick The Jungle as it was the book that thrust me into socialism and consequently communism. Jurgis' whole story is inspiring as he is thrust from one bad situation into worse ones as the story goes on and yet he comes out in the end with some degree of hope. The jobs at the meat-packing plant and the fertilizer plant, his stint in jail, the fall of his family, the death of his wife, the struggle to better his family's life. I'm actually going to reread it again now!

Fallen Angels- Its about the Vietnam war. Lot's of cussing (Atleast that's what I remember when I read it in 5th grade) Its extremely realistic and there are lots of twists for such a short book.

@nar: The Bible is actually a book full of books. There is no coherent plot line, but in each book (Such as Exodous, Luke, Revelation, etc.) there is. WHAT DO YOU MEAN NO INSPIRING CHARACTERS!?!? Moses doesn't inspire you to trust in god, Mary doesn't inspire you to be the best you can be, and so many others! And don't even get me started on Jesus...

The bible is presented as a whole book and each book is in turn like different parts of a novel; part 1, part 2, etc. You can't pick and choose which parts you want to listen too and which ones to ignore, lest you wish to go against major denominations of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.
For one, there are plenty more reasons to not trust in god (should he exist). The banishment of his/her/its creation from paradise, the blatant destruction of people because they act "sinfully," the non-omnipotent omnipotent non-omnipresent omnipresent duality is rather annoying.
Why should she?
Then Jesus. What about Jesus should inspire me (and I think that religious stuff should go into a separate thread, just for convenience)?

Hmm maybe too hard to name just one book I preferred. I really liked Fellowship of the Ring, although I feel with the rest of the LOTR books, they felt 'rushed'. I've never actually read the Hobbit. *Prepares for gunfire*
Recently, I've gotten into crime fiction, Wallander and the likes. I'm starting it after I've finished Night Shift; a collection of Stephen King short stories.
