Hello everyone!
I'd like to thank Millyland for the nomination for speaker, it is a position to act as our founder after all, and there are a lot of good people to nominate now than ever. I'll break this up into two parts.
1. Background
In my time in the SLU, which I joined in August, I laid the framework for the roleplay system we see today. With the help of all my friends in the ministry of domestic affairs, we transformed member's nation experience from factbook and news station threads into a still growing virtual world.
In addition, I have tried my best to be active with the editing and creation of new laws, amendments, and proposals.
-I poke my head in the general forum once and a while too ;)
Regional Map
Not long after joining, I proposed we started a regional map to display all member states in unity. I created and updated the map for quite a while until Avaerilon took over for me :)
Behold! One of the first renditions of our map:

And where I left off:

It wasn't easy jamming all the billions of us in a picture but I tried my best! :P
Roleplay
Also not long after I joined, I wanted to see roleplay have more prominence than it did at the time. I proposed a whole re-organization of the roleplay forum and had it reworked into the sections we have, creating the Council of Leaders and the Regional Sports League.
CoL- An idea I had to have all members meet as in a mock UN and debate how to solve region-wide crises. Wrote the first tutorials and rules to use, and ran the first situation updates before responsibilities were handed out.
SLU Sports League- This was a biggie idea we had the idea of a SLU soccer league. We needed a way to increase membership on the forum and activity between members, so why not create a sports system inside our region? Took to the Internet and created the yahoo sports leagues that we have now, and wrote up the base rules and tutorials.
Tutorials
I helped create the framework of tutorials along with other hard workers in the government, so virtually every part of the forum has a tutorial covering at least it's basics. We are still continuing this trend and I am happy to see us working towards a very efficient mentor-ship system.
Thanks to the hard work of other partners in Domestic Affairs, as well as the fun members of our region, we have all taken part in the advancement of our roleplay. It has worked far better than I expected and there are always more ways we are finding to enrich the experience!
2. To the Table
Defense: Our regional defense is prime. The larger that we get, the more influence we give off in the NS universe, which increases the chances of a raider region setting its eyes on us. The more of our own eyes we keep on our region, hostile regions, and suspicious activity, the more we can concentrate on domestic accomplishments without fear of hacking.
Should this forum not be backed up I would suggest we do so, in the event a raid wipes us clean of all our work again. Nothing is as devastating as starting from scratch over and over.
In the mean time, we should keep watchers working at virtually all hours of the day for potential threats. The more eyes we have looking for nations breaching our constitution and RMB chatter about the SLU, the better.
With the idea of regional alignment being thrown around, I think that the SLU should make its decision based upon two things.
We can take a lead role and rally together other like-minded regions to create a Democratic Defense League. Yes. I like my wording very much. It puts us in a great position for defense against raids, makes us a bit more known, and all we have to do is have a big group discussion and figure out the rules we will have behind it works!
I would prefer it be a strictly defensive alliance, in which one member is attacked, we rally to their aid. No counter-attacks, just pretty well assured survival between a small group of similar regions.
Otherwise, we can continue with what we have been doing and staying neutral, and aiding allies when they need it. The benefits of this are it allows us to continue building up our national defense and security so that if we are ever attacked and we have few allies, we will be better prepared to fight it off on our own.
In the end, this is all about what we decide together to do.
Domestic: In the region we are building a vast array of social media not normally found in the NS game. I am in love with this creation of ourselves that we call the Social Liberal Union. Roleplay will continue to improve no matter what, but I would like to see the roleplay team increased in size, so that updates occur more frequently with the same level of detail that has brought everyone to love the programs.
The weekly newsletter is gaining support, and with additional help, can pump out bigger, more interesting weekly editions. The NAR has done a fantastic job writing and organizing this, and I'd like to see this continue to grow in size, so that we all have a little section of it that we write, whether it be a quick snippet in news about our country, or a two page article on how you think a government should work.
The more input, the more support, and the more dedication we all put into it will make it turn out with a large regular subscription base and more inter-regional activity that we constantly crave.
Additional advertisement and an all around contribution should do the trick! This newsletter should definitely have a big spotlight put on it throughout the forum.
The CoL currently has Avaerilon doing the bulk of situation updates. I know what it's like and it's not fair to have to do it all by yourself, even though Avaerilon has done an astounding job. I would like to see a rotating team of CoL writers for each update, so that every update has a different, unique move in the situation from the last one, as well as create more in-depth updates with the increase in time for creation.
In other words, lets see if we can't get some of our new writing-talented members to help out our old ones. The more the better it will work :)
A re-organization of the CoL to make it less cluttered could also be in order.
Laws and Proposals
As we have seen in the last month, more and more are getting comfortable releasing their own ideas for bills to parliament.
I would still like to see more getting involved in this.
New members start in this process by commenting on a bill. Then they might add to a bill in a comment. Eventually they will write their own.
As a huge believer in direct democracy, the discussion and voting of all to achieve a solution, I like to see the most in every proposal. It makes me happy to see everyone pitching in ideas and debating problems and issues.
Being speaker, it would be my duty to monitor these proposals and guide them through the process of debate to law. I'd like to emphasize involvement, from everyone, new and old, and will do my part as others have to promote the parliament as the keystone of our region.
We have a lot to be proud of! Look at what we have as a forum. We have a beautiful roleplay system sitting next to a widely active chat room, with a whole government framework worked around it out of simply rules, created out of deliberation between Everybody! Amazing.
Well that's all the time I have to write for now. If you have any questions, ask away as I'm sure there's plenty I didn't cover!
