ERIADNI FOR MINISTER OF IMMIGRATION
Hello there! My name is Eri and I would like to be the next Minister for Immigration. I have a new vision for the Immigration portfolio, one that will increase our community size, increase the contribution member and resident states can make, and protect the values that make the SLU so great. So let's jump right into it!
I have envisioned three major policy areas; getting people into the region, keeping them in the region whilst keeping undesirables out. I hope to make significant progress in all three areas, along with a reorganisation of the Immigration ministry. My specific plans for each of these policy areas are listed below!
Recruitment
This is an area where we can make a significant overhaul to current practices. By using Nationstates' very own telegram template system, investigating options with API recruitment and formalising manual recruiting, efforts can be given a huge boost. I plan to:
- Encourage and facilitate manual recruiting from all states who wish to help out, using templates for new and refounded nations.
- Investigate various API telegramming options and submit recommendations to the region as a step forward for a standard API.
- Implement an award system for dedicated recruiters, celebrating milestones having sent 50, 100, 250 and 500 telegrams
- Create a "Guide to Immigrating to the SLU" to assist existing nations to understand the requirements for SLU residency and Member state status.
- Encourage diversity within our community through recruitment, a wealth of experience is better than none!
Retention
This policy area aims at keeping newcomers in the region and assisting them to acquire member state status. Member states only make up about half of our total regional size and even fewer are regularly active on Discord. I would like to develop some specific plans to introduce newcomers to our community and make them feel welcome.
- Increase awareness of WA membership and endorsements on the delegate
- Begin a program of sending telegrams/PMS to new members for one week, in order to assist them to join the community.
- Create a naturalisation team to engage with new immigrants and help them out.
The Firm but Fair Policy
This policy underpins the border control of the Union in regards to non-compliant states. In recent times, however, nations that would usually require an instant ejection have been able to stay in the region for over three weeks. In this area, I have a few key ideas:
- Maintenance of a non-compliance list in order to keep track of non-compliant states, list actions taken and justification for said actions. This list will be publicly accessible
- Make all potential immigrants aware of the SLU's constitutional requirements to avoid doubt and uncertainty regarding immigration status. This would be delivered by telegrams and dispatches.
- Enlist help from regional members to spot potential non-compliant states in order to increase awareness and spread the workload.
The New Ministry of Immigration
My final contribution to the MoI would be a general reorganisation of the ministry, the creation of three departments and a framework for member and resident states to contribute. This formalisation would hopefully allow regional members to contribute to the best they can, whilst ensuring all bases are covered. An outline of this proposed organisation is below:
Minister/Deputy Minister
Recruitment Team | Border Control Team | Naturalisation Team |
- Using manual and API recruitment on new/refounded nations - Award system for 50, 100, 250, 500 TGs sent. - Standardisation of Recruitment templates. | - Spot non-compliant states - Notify the Minister/Deputy Minister of such states - Send warning telegrams to non-compliant states at the Ministers and Government's discretion. | - Welcome new states to the Union - Encourage new immigrants to get involved in the community - Answer questions from new states and explain how the SLU functions |
Team membership would be open to all resident and member states, at the discretion of the Minister and Government
It is my hope that this reorganisation will propel the Immigration Ministry forward and develop growth in the region.
