Hello. I'm Ramelia, and I'm running for Speaker of the Union to ensure a Speakership responsive to members of the Social Liberal Union, and focused on improving our public records for the benefit of those already here, and for generations of SLUans to come.
I've been a resident of the Social Liberal Union since April of this year. I've been a highly active member of the SLU's community, and a recent contributor to legislation such as the Independent Counsel Act, which helps ensure proper prosecution in criminal cases. In addition, I spent more than two years here in the SLU from 2015 to 2017 as the Odd Republic, having a hand as Speaker in 2017 in the drafting of the Third Constitution and multiple items of legislation, as well as the introduction of the Library of Parliament.
Why would I make a good Speaker?
I think it best to start by addressing reasonable criticisms of me. The first is my writing of a number of frivolous bills throughout 2017, and, to a lesser extent, earlier this year. The second is the temperament I had throughout my speakership in 2017 and sometimes this year. This temperament led to my resignation from the speakership in 2017. The first of these criticisms concerns something it took me quite some time to understand: not every procedure needs to be micromanaged with legislation; instead, I simply ought communicate effectively with members of government. I believe I have become better at this. The second concern is major—if I have not changed my temperament, I should not be Speaker. However, I do believe I've become less combative, perhaps merely as a function of age, and more stable in my actions. I made many mistakes as Speaker in 2017, but I believe I've addressed their causes.
While I have tried to improve upon my flaws, I believe I possess certain experience which qualifies me to the speakership. In May 2017, the SLU saw revolutionary change with the passage of the Third Constitution and the introduction of the Library of Parliament. Anaaxes and myself were involved in bringing the Library and Constitution (along with much accompanying legislation) into being, and I remained involved in the development of the Library for the remainder of my speakership. As such, I have unique experience with the Library and our laws. I believe this experience makes me right to revolutionize our many records in the Library and keep our laws preserved as they ought be: with the utmost of care.

If I am elected Speaker, I pledge to first and foremost uphold the duties the Speaker possesses to ensure the fair functioning of SLU democracy in the Open Parliament. I will help nations draft legislation when they ask and aid in navigation of the Library, and otherwise help out as best I can when asked by members of our community. I also want to advance our records on the Library, which would ensure easy to access and accurate information for members now and in the future:
Legal Matters- I would update the pages of laws which need to be modified to account for amendments, and ensure all amendments are also in proper order.
- I would properly update the current government officer pages, which in some cases are in desperate need of attention.
- I would spend time creating new pages regarding our government and region which are needed (I believe some such pages are currently blank–I intend that they wouldn't be under a Ramelic speakership).
- I would do my best to find active members of our community to serve as Librarians of Parliament to aid in these processes–I understand that I can't make the Library excel further on my own.
- I would work on the creation, update, and categorization of historical records. If possible, I would like to work with the Minister of Domestic Affairs on the creation of some sort of SLU Historic Society to work on historic records–I won't pretend I know everything of our history by any means.
I voluntarily endorse and pledge myself to conduct my campaign in accordance with the Code of Fair Campaign Practices, as codified in the Voting Reform and Fair Political Practices Act.
In accordance with the Conflict of Interest Act, I disclose that I currently possess positions of interest in two regions: as Minister of Domestic Affairs and Ambassador to The Leftist Assembly in The Versution Federation, and as Ambassador to The North Pacific in the Democratic Socialist Assembly.

Conclusion
I have been an active part of the SLU community for years, and I am hoping for the chance to serve the same community. In doing so, I intend to maintain what makes our community so great, and strengthen our records for our posterity as a region. I wish all of my fellow candidates for the esteemed office we seek well. I'd love to hear all of your questions or comments below.
