Vote for Phing Phong – A Fresh Approach to the SLU
First, I wish to thank Avaerilon for nominating me in the upcoming election, whose achievements in revitalising the region after a period of general inactivity cannot be overstated. I recognise that contesting this election will be a great challenge against an incumbent with such a track record. Nevertheless, a fresh pair of eyes and ears would enable the region to continue to develop positively.
As one of the oldest members of the Social Liberal Union, I have witnessed many changes in both the composition, membership and general level of activity within the region. While we may be down on our former numbers, quality speaks louder than quantity, and the calibre of members today is more than enough to make up for this.
My manifesto proposals are as follows:
- I would begin a process of reviewing our region's stance on issues around security, in particular moderating our stance against raiding when it does not directly affect our interests.
- I would press for a constitutional simplification and reform of the region's immigration policy, working in conjunction with the Immigration Minister. Without wishing to intimidate new nations, our membership requirements are not onerous, and those who do not meet them should be notified to the effect that they must reach a state of compliance as quickly as possible to remain members.
- In addition to this, a shift in recruitment from new nations, which are highly prone to staying but a few hours, days or weeks, to established regions, achieved by proposing treaties on the successful model of the UDLS merger treaty, would enable us to recruit more high-quality members.
- The current tripartite system of ministries is serving the region well, and I would seek to retain it. Creating new ministries, while freeing up the portfolios of existing ones, would lead to duplication of work and not reflect the priorities the region should maintain.
- Engagement with the World Assembly on a regional level would be facilitated by requiring the delegate to vote with the majority of regional World Assembly members on resolutions. I would follow such a policy, and seek to enshrine it as the constitutional responsibility of the delegacy. In close votes, the delegate would be required to justify their decision before the region.
My delegacy would be open to regional question and criticism, and I pledge to deal with any issues regional members may have within a twenty-four hour period.
If anyone has questions, or desires clarification of or expansion on anything I have said, feel free to post below and I will answer and address them promptly.
