That’s right, you read it correctly: I, Avaerilon, have entered the race to become Your delegate.
I bring experience, dedication and innovation to the delicious table that is the Social Liberal Union, but before I ask you to vote for me, I'm going to tell you why I'm stepping-up to the plate.
We've seen some fantastic developments in the region in the last administration; new pieces of well-written, crucial and forward-thinking legislation, new nations taking to the fore with vim and vigour, and more recognition of the region’s place in the interregional community. This couldn't have happened without the hard work of the various ministers and the guidance of the delegate- Marinar, you've done a really good job, and all this among some very low levels of regional activity and participation.
I for one would not like to see these developments falter and fade into nothingness, and I want to see our region get back to those once dizzying levels of activity, when the entire region was abuzz every second of every day. In short, I’m bringing a large quadruple espresso to a region in need of a kick.
EXPERIENCE: Wait, wait, wait wait wait wait- hang on! What’s all this about experience?
Well, I've been a member of the SLU since July of 2011; nearly three years now. In that time, I've had my fair share of jobs- I started as a recruiter under the Ministry of Immigration, then combined that with tending to the old regional map and crafting new role-plays. After a while, I was elected and consistently re-elected as Minister of Domestic Affairs (longest-serving minister!), and made the ministry and enviable part of the SLUan machine. I also took-up covert duties in the old Ministry of Defence, and became (through one of my puppets) ambassador to one of our long-time partners, the IDU. During my time, I also assisted in the writing of several pieces of legislation, and co-wrote a couple of World Assembly GA proposals. So, I've got experience in pretty much all the essential areas of the region that can only enhance my potential.
DEDICATION: All right, MAYBE you've got experience, sure. But does that really equate to dedication- I mean, walruses are pretty experienced at being walruses, but “dedicated” isn't something I’d associate with those blubbery, betusked beach-loungers.
Most importantly of all: I'm not a walrus. I'm a guy who’s passionate about the region I came to and developed in, and who’s deeply committed to making sure every resident nation gets the most out of being here, since I've had such a good time myself. With the Regional Map, I took it upon myself to hand-draw a detailed, high-resolution map every nation could be proud to be on; with my former position in Domestic Affairs, I dedicated time and effort to making it a slick, effective machine, to give regional members the best possible experience. And, as Your delegate, I would put every essence of my being into ensuring every issue is dealt with and every safe possibility explored to make this region as great as it can be. I won’t lie-down on a sandy beach gurgling at smaller betusked, blubbery beings.
INNOVATION: … wow. That’s… actually, that’s pretty good. So… what’s all this about innovation, then?
I have a 14-point plan to ensuring that the SLU continues to move forward. Here it is:
• Ensure a stable and effective delegacy with an active and approachable delegate
• Enhance and continue to give the freedoms ministers enjoy in implementing the policies of their own choosing, and also give them clear and concise agreed targets to work-towards
• Commit to an open-door policy whereby any resident can contact me about any problem, and will receive an answer as quickly as possible, and further work-towards a “fireside chat” hour once a week where I will be available to talk to live, probably through a chat-room accessible to regional members only
• Encourage greater participation in interregional activities and more, through closer working partnerships with our allies, and seeking to build relations with more regions aligned to our values, while protecting the liberal, democratic socialist, social democratic and neutral values of our region
• Safeguard the region’s security by revitalising defence efforts in both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Domestic Affairs, and by co-operating with our partners in keeping our regions safe
• Respect the wishes of the regional community by casting my vote as delegate on World Assembly resolutions based-on regional consensus
• Supply the region with a cabinet report on a regular basis, to keep members informed of their elected government’s actions, thoughts and keeping everything under fair and transparent scrutiny
• Work with ministers to work-out and put-in-place new regional safeguards in case of an emergency such as the delegate not being able to access the internet in a time of crisis, such as a potential raid
• Revitalise the activity of the region by consistent and creative ways, and working with both the Speaker and the Ministry of Domestic Affairs to ensure that there’s always something fun going-on in the region
• Co-ordinate with the Ministry of Immigration new tactics in-line with our regional laws and signed international agreements to recruit more new nations to our region
• Enforce a “firm but fair” policy on nations not in-compliance with our region’s constitution, via working closely with the Minister of Immigration, giving offenders a genuine fair chance to meet the standards expected, and ensuring repeat and serious offenders are not able to continue abusing the goodwill of our fair-minded region
• Assist the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with their efforts to build new bridges and seek further international co-operation on the issues that matter to the region
• Support the Ministry of Domestic Affairs in creating high-quality role-play and other activities to encourage and boost regional activity, and in-keeping the levels of activity at higher-than-present levels
• Allay any fears that the Regional Map will turn into a giant cake with wings and fly-away to Genoa by confirming my continued commitment as Royal Cartographer to the map
Finally, where would I be without a video? They always say you can judge a man by his enemies. With that in-mind, here's a little bit of silliness just for you...
I believe that’s the most important content covered rather nicely. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to prod me by commenting below or telegramming me at any time. Stay cool, SLU! (::)
