CHANCELLERY AND MINISTRY OF JUSTICE ISSUE JOINT STATEMENT REGARDING RECENT SERIAL KILLINGS IN THE SLU

In response to reports of killings within the SLU and in Bonaria, the Chancellor's office and the Ministry of Justice released a joint statement this afternoon.
"Despite the fact that crimes of this sort are relatively unknown in our republic," Attorney General Howard Scott read, "it is well-known that one such killing has occurred in Riley Prefecture. Our citizens should rest assured that local and federal officials are cooperating to solve this case. We also reach out to our friends in Avaerilon, and offer our help in solving their cases as well."

When asked about the letter delivered by People's Commissar Crumrine of the N.A.R. to the Avaerilonian Foreign Minister, the Attorney General was visibly trying to keep his cool. "We feel that, uh, the, uh, the letter delivered to the Avaerilonian Foreign Minister was, uh... This is a matter that, um, should be resolved by the two states in question. The Bonarian government has no official statement at this time." Sources within the Ministry later stated that the Attorney General received a stern call from the Chancellor due to his stumbling over official government policy.

The weekend death of 23 year old Jessica Signet shocked Bonaria, a state frequently hailed for its peaceful nature. Crime, especially violent crime and youth-related crime, are virtually unknown in the republic. Citizens worry about their safety, and sales of firearms in the Republic have risen sharply in the week following the incident.

The Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of Palartina, making his (and the nation's) first appearance at the Council of Leaders, stood to address the assembled leaders.

"We Palartinians wish to assist in this matter. We have fortunately been spared any attacks thus far, and as we are not currently preoccupied with an larger matter, as are the Azerians, we think we are in good position to offer assistance. Our police and National Investigation Bureau are making this a top priority case, and will cooperate fully with any other nations pursuing this criminal."

Welcome, fellow leaders, to this Council of Leaders.

It seems our rather lukewarm efforts to find and arrest Red John, this most notorious serial killer, have been a failure up to this point. We have yet to find any DNA evidence other than the victims' own, and few leads.

However, thanks to international efforts, largely by Bonarian, Parlatinian and Avaerilonian detectives, we have a new lead. Detectives visited the home of one Rosalind Harker, a red-haired young woman who claims to have had intimate relations with one Roy Tagliaferro. All the evidence points to Mr. Tagliaferro being a fake identity used by Red John. After all, we found a small "crying smiley" painted on one of her walls.

The bad news is that Ms. Harker was born blind. However, she did note that "Roy" enjoyed tea, was medium height and build, had a soft voice and enjoyed Bach.

However, Red John has not been as lazy as we have. He has killed another 4 "ordinary victims", all women, and a further 6 people connected to senior officials in the SLU. We lost one high-ranking policeman and a civil servant, both brutally murdered.

NAR: Your government refuses to believe in the existence of Red John. However, your citizens think differently and have organised demonstrations and open-letters to change your government's mind. The nation is becoming victim to paranoia. Meanwhile, your government is being lampooned in other nation's media for its attitude towards the murders.

Bonaria: With your best detectives on the case, some calm has been restored to the populace. However, there have been reports of people killing others, mistakenly believing the person they attacked was Red John. Safety campaigners have asked the government to ban sales of knives and weapons.

Azerzia: The relative indifference of the Azerzian government has been taken advantage of by Red John, it would seem; the secretary of a senior official was brutally murdered.

Parlatina: Your police force's hard work to assist in finding the killer has made them the envy of numerous police forces region-wide, and the population is increasingly supportive of your government. However, some other crimes, mostly a string of house-burglaries, have been given seemingly less attention by police forces, worrying several prominent newspapers.

Newhalla: Numerous male immigrants have complained of over-zealous border guards harassing them, due to your nation's promise to arrest Red John, should he arrive on your shores.

Avaerilon: With the huge police resources being put-into finding Red John, there has been a worry that police are not being paid enough overtime, and talks of a strike by officers.
