As requested by Minister of Foreign Affairs Goncar, this thread is for the discussion and voting for the proposed embassy with Capitalist Paradise. Capitalist Paradise is a very large region that is united primarily by an advocacy of the capitalistic system of economics, typically in a laissez-faire format. While the majority of resident nations of the region have above average civil rights and political freedoms, there is still a large population of authoritarian nations existing there, and the constitution of the region allows those nations to stay there. Regardless, official relations with a region of this size are likely to increase traffic to the SLU. Voting lasts until 22:00 UTC, 22 April, 2014.

I'm honestly not sure on this one. CP does have plenty of democracies, and it would be good to have more embassies around the world, but I'm not entirely convinced by them, particularly due to their usual advocacy of laissez-faire economics. I'll personally abstain for now.

Article 12 of the Constitution does say regions the SLU shares embassies with must "have a preference for socialist or social liberal economic systems" (Section 1, clause 3). It doesn't feel like this region fulfills this requirement. EDIT: Amendment 6 (section 3) does kind of negate this point. I should learn to read more carefully.
Otherwise, too, I'm against this embassy. The region does not share our values to the extent that it should for us to align ourselves with it.

Capitalist Paradise does not reflect ideas even remotely close to our own and thus, I cannot support an embassy with CP in good faith.

I don't think Capitalist Paradise is a good match for the region. I know a couple of people there from previous times on NS and were good friends; however, I don't like the region as a whole.

While between a handful and a fair amount of nations lack political or personal freedoms in the region, I would like to point out that we have an embassy with The Versutian Federation, which not only has an embassy with Capitalist Paradise, but is also home to a handful of nations lacking political and personal freedoms as well. The government of Capitalist Paradise is made up mostly of sensible nations with high freedoms, as is the case with The Versutian Federation. Therefore, I find these arguments against Capitalist Paradise fairly hypocritical and, while I am no fan of laissez-faire capitalism, I believe that formal diplomatic ties would nonetheless be beneficial for the traffic we will receive. Truthfully, I would like to know why we subject Capitalist Paradise to this scrutiny while The Versutian Federation is seemingly lacking similar criticism.

I think part of it is due to the fact CP officially advocates a degree of laissez-faire capitalism, whilst VF does not. We also have a strict criteria involved, and currently, as has been pointed-out, I think CP doesn't quite meet this set of rules; VF appears to be less strict about who it holds embassies with, though I'm not 100% sure on this. At any rate, this criteria can however be changed by an amendment; if you think we ought to loosen-up that side of things, you'd be more than welcome to submit one :) I do agree that having more relations with different regions is a good thing, however, and if the region wants it, then I'll happily send them a request.
