Dearest Members of the Social Liberal Union,
Here I am, Jyskmark, standing to become your Minister of Immigration. I am aware that I am currently running against candidates with a vastly superior experience of Nationstates and also specifically of Immigration-based roles but I believe I have the right attitude to bring to the Ministry and a good sense of dedication to SLU affairs that make me a strong candidate for the position. Also, hey, Donald Trump has two and a half years of experience as US President but that doesn’t particularly make him any better at the job.
My Credentials
I went into my qualifications in more depth in my platform for the recent Delegate election, so here I shall simply say that I believe my tenure as the Secretary General of the DSA demonstrates my ability to ably serve in regional government and, particularly useful for the MoI, perform the administrative functions related to that. Furthermore the end of July shall bring not just the end of my current spell as Secretary General, but also the end of any especial involvement I shall have in DSA affairs thus leaving me able to fully dedicate my Nationstates activity to serving this community I have grown to love.
Bolstering Immigration
There’s a lot of waffling that can be done about improving gameside recruitment into the SLU, but simply it boils down to the much-talked-about introduction of an autorecruiter and finessing our recruitment telegram to ensure we can attract as many new nations as possible. We can market ourselves as much as we want, but the crucial aspect is doing what we can to encourage any new members to stay.
Nursing Growth
Growth of the gameside region is great, but ultimate success rides on nursing growth of the SLU community as we know it. I think there is already heavy emphasis for new players on our Discord being the hub of our community’s activity, but of course a Jyskmark Ministry would ensure this vital platform is promoted as heavily as it needs to be.
If I might re-use something I said in the recent Delegate candidates’ debate;
New members joining the SLU are people like us and therefore should be treated as such, rather than being treated as data points for ministers to analyse and map. We are a very welcoming group and of course this gets extended to everyone who chooses to join us anyway, though it cannot be emphasised enough that retention needs to be handled with respect. The many (and still increasing number of) doors into our region’s discussion, chatter, role-play and government involvement need to be kept propped wide open, but new members should not feel like they are being forced through them. Retention relies on making people feel comfortable in our community, and so every step should be taken to ensure they are allowed to settle in at their own pace and without our region feeling overbearing - as some really can be for new members. This would be the key drive in my approach to the Ministry of Immigration: active but respectful encouragement in which all SLU members should take a part.
Achieving this will involve constant advertisement of possibilities available as part of involvement in the region, for both new members and existing members seeking a new role. It should always be clear what official roles are open, and in conjunction with wider government I would also seek to run and promote more organised events and activities for the region. Through all of that, however, attention should not be taken away from the importance of simply engaging with any new members in a friendly and encouraging manner during day-to-day interaction. When community growth is a key issue at stake, it is so very easy to forget the basics of forging natural relationships.
To sum up...
I think I've said just about all I want to. I believe I have demonstrated in the past my ability to thrive as a member of regional government, and would love to have the chance to bring this to the SLU along with my ideas for the Ministry of Immigration. I love the SLU for its friendliness and good vibes, and above all I want to preserve this throughout attempts to increase the size and activity of our community. If you have any questions feel free to get in touch with me via some medium or another but, for now, thanks for reading this.

“for me the SLU is a good community where people feel free to just come and talk about everything from the big topics right down to how their day was - welcoming people into this aspect of the community is how retention should work.”
