Vote Northern Inertia for Minister of Foreign Affairs!
Hi!
An active member of the SLU, I currently serve as the ambassador of our region to the International Democratic Union. As I could now potentially devote more time to the region, I feel like it is time to run for a ministerial position.
Goncar's first term was a successful one, completing the UDLS merger and reviving the ambassadorial system. Since this is, in my opinion, the best way of maintaining and improving our relations with similar, friendly regions, the system should remain intact, with active ambassadors and meaningful interregional dialogue.
I see the future relations with these regions streching even further: the DA, in cooperation with the FA, could, for instance, promote interregional roleplay, as well as working with the cabinet and the Delegate to establish some form of interregional defence cooperation. This could conceivably take the form of the interregional defence treaty that was proposed some time ago, but has since fallen into obscurity. Essentially, I would work to ensure that the relations that the ministry upholds are not only an end in itself, but also a means to boost regional activity and to make the SLU a better place.
As one of the foremost leftist and liberal regions in the game, I believe the SLU should encourage the development of smaller regions with similar objectives; I have noticed that while the majority of nations on NS tend to showcase leftist sentiment, they usually do not choose to settle in large regions based on this ideology. Rather, there are numerous smaller regions with similar beliefs as ours.
To this end, I believe in an expansion of official SLU relations, especially as we were forced to close an embassy recently, and do not really have any interregional relations with the UDLS anymore, either. I would like to stress that this does not necessarily mean a relaxation of the requirements we have for embassies; instead, I would give the FA ministry a more proactive role in finding promising regions which do meet the requirements and in establishing relation with said regions.
Of course, all these are long-term objectives. However, I am ready to commit to moving the region in the direction outline above, and this is why I hope for your support.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Ava for the kind nomination. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them!
Tiny PS: I apologise for the lateness of this posting; I have been engaged in a brutal judo match with my computer over the last few days, and only today did I manage to score a yuko. I am confident I will achieve an ippon this coming weekend.
